I think the genre is dwindling so badly that no matter how well FFXV does in sales or its reception, the genre won't be any healthier. Maybe FFXV could help, but my gut instinct is that the JRPG as a mainstream genre has come and gone.

I think my biggest gripe with it is how easy it is to exploit the Junction system very early on in the game. I try put myself in shoe shoes of a new player though, who might not know that you can have 100 Waters for all characters in the first half an hour of game play etc. Perhaps FFVIII...

My favourite has to be FFVII. Firstly, because the Materia itself dovetails nicely in with the plot of the game, with mako, lifestream etc. But also because you can spread out the materia evenly and have three all rounders, or distribute it such that you have clear "classes" like other FF games...

Started FFVIII last week, just at the D-District Prison sequence. I've really gone all out to be overpowered on this one. I've used Card on most enemies to keep from getting EXP, so when I have all the Stat Bonus abilities, I can make as much use of them as possible.
