It seems more believable to pack more strength boosts into a larger weapon. I think a smaller, lighter weapon that could be easily combo linked would be better, but oh well... not as heroic I guess.
This game became my favorite, mostly due to the wide cast of party members, including playable characters never seen before or since like a yeti, a non-robotic Moogle, and a whatever Gogo is.
I never really got into FF VII. Really, I never saw what was so great about it.
I actually miss the turn based style. Even the ATB style. I've never played FF XII yet, so it may be wrong of me to judge, but it looks like it would play like an online game, and if thats how it plays I'm not very thrilled about it.

He may be an uncontrollable face-breaking non-magical Yeti, but from my knowledge hes the only Yeti you can have in your party in any FF game. At least he has that going for him.
In the games, I usually use warriors to dispatch wussy random encounter monsters (even my mages just swing their staves in those situations.) But alot of boss fights are tough without using magic...
I'll have to say mages > warriors though, because if I had to be one or the other I'd rather be...
