Just a simple question, something some people may have thought about. Which would you have preferred, this or a prequel that details Braska's pilgrimage?

I haven't played X-2, so I'm not going to judge it, although some of the changes from X to X-2 have left me a tad bit confused.

Nevertheless, I would have loved to see a game made where you play through Braska's journey. I felt that while the Jecht sphere's gave you a window into his journey, what was left out could really be fleshed out into a great full length game.

I've heard that this was really what many fans were calling for, and Square-Enix gave them X-2. I don't know if this is completely true or not, but what do you think? If you were in charge of making the decision, which would you choose and why?

I guess it would have been fun to get to see more of braskas journey but really, I'd rather play as 3 girls than 3 men.

i would have preffered a prequel to all of the events. the whole thing in FFx-2 just kinda sucked, especially with what they did with Blitzball. it would have been more fun to actually play Blitz with Jecht instead of sitting there and watching it with Yuna.

I'm glad they did X-2 as they did, because we got to see how the character's developed over 2 years, and we finally got to see Tidus reunited with Yuna at the end. I wouldn't have liked it if it just ended as it did in FFX nad we never knew what had happened to Tidus, and if he and Yuna were ever reunited. I found the Braska, Auron and Jecht story a bit... boring. Their spheres were kinda dull. But then again, I'd prefer to play them in battle than 3 slutty girls!

Really? I liked FFX's ending, not that I want lovers to be torn from each other, just the opposite, but I thought it was a really touching ending. Tragic endings almost always seem to be more emotionally charged than "perfect endings".
Just look at Romeo and Juliet.

I would have preferred it if they didn't make a spin-off to FFX. While yes, the happy ending in FFX2 made me feel happy for Yuna, I thought it destroyed a lot of the poignancy in the ending to FFX.

As for a prequel to FFX...I don't really see the point. We already know what's gonna happen, and we know all the key points through the spheres. And, it would basically be a game with Auron, Tidus and Yuna as playable characters, but with different sprites. No Black Mage, no Thief ...boring.

i think they shouldve done both, FFX-2 and FFX: Braskas Story, at least then it would show some diversity... of course then it would start reaching ff7 heights of popularity and greatnes... and we cant have that

I enjoyed playing ffx-2 its one of them games you would call fun :P
But i would of liked to play a game about Jecht,Auron, and Braska -__-

I think a prequel would have been better cause X-2 was just kinda annoying. Liked the level system coming back but other than that I woulda preferred it never have been made I think X-2 was a great example of why Square never does FF sequels and just does new stories. From my opinion of Crisis Core they can sure as hell do damn good on a prequel so I think that would have been the better option. Plus coulda seen if Jecht was really the ass Tidus whiny cry baby self made him out to be(I personally think Tidus was just a whiny girl and cried cause daddy never hugged him and shoulda been born a girl)

Lol damn straight! I reckon Jecht was pretty decent, and not the tool Tidus made him out to be. The bitching about his 'old man' became really tiresome really quickly... I was rooting for Jecht's Aeon to finish the selfish moron off!!
But I wouldn't be interested in playing the prequel if they made one, the trio never interested me much.

Uhh, just for the record Tidus NEVER made him out to be a complete tool. Did you not play FFX? Are you honestly oblivious to the fact that his father used nothing but a cruel, harsh and sarcastic tones with him when his son was just a little boy? "Cry cry, that's the only thing you're good for."

Yeah, umm I think if my parents had spoke to me like that, I'd probably be just as disgusted with them as well. I'm sorry, but all I ever see in your posts is you bitch about how much you hate Tidus. Right, we get it already. You hate Tidus. I think it's pretty obvious by your sig. Please stop complaining about him in every single post you make...alright? He's one of my favorite characters and a lot of people here like him as well. If you must bitch about him, go bitch about him in the Tidus Haters club please.

I can't tell if Tidus' harsh memories of Jecht were real, or exaggerations made up in his head. We can't really tell if his dad was really so harsh by saying, "Cry cry cry, that's all you're good for". I like to think Tidus' memories are misconceived and not completely true, because towards the end, Tidus remembers his dad telling his mom to pay attention to him, which shows more compassion than previously shown.

Alright, the thread is starting to go off-topic now. If you wish to discuss this, feel free to make your own thread on the subject.

I liked the game and all and it was quite amusing but it got really easy toward the end since I leveled up my characters like crazy at some battles before that but anyway i would prefer it but the one thing I hated was Yuna Rikku, and Paine looked like strippers all their dresspheres were just ew the only good one was White Mage.It would be cool if after x-2 they hads one about maybe Auron's Story or maybe even Lenne's since you dont know alot about her story with Shuyin and all.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't see the post about this getting off topic so it didn't come to mind.

The quote you've provided wasn't said by the real Jecht it was just Tidus dreaming about Rikku and Yuna. Tidus hates Jecht, his dreams would almost certainly portray his father in a bad light.

And actually Jecht opened up to Tidus a lot during the course of the game. According to Auron, Jecht said he loved Tidus but simply didn't know how to express it. So I think it's more along the lines of Jecht not understanding how to be a father than him simply being cruel.

With the whole crying thing Jecht was just trying to make a point. The Jecht sphere he left for Tidus he really opens up:

"Hey. If you're sitting there, watching this... It means you're stuck in Spira, like me.
You might not know when you'll get back home, but you better not be crying!
Although, I guess I'd understand. But you know what? There's a time when you have to stop crying and move on. You'll be fine. Remember, you're my son."
*Jecht's voice starts getting all choked up*
"And... Well, uh... Never mind. I'm not good at these things."

*The sphere turns off and then turns back on with Jecht out of view*
"Anyways... I believe in you. Be good. Goodbye."
He's trying to teach him a lesson about crying and dealing with issues. He doesn't say it's bad, he just says there's a time when you need to move on. Tidus even admits he's something of a crybaby, Jecht's trying to help him with that.

Auron: I heard you were quite the crybaby.

Tidus(thinking): Yeah, maybe when I was a kid. Maybe even a little now. Just a little.
He also really talks about a dream he had, one he wanted to share with Tidus:

"I been doing some thinking. My dream is back in the other Zanarkand. I wanted to make that runt into a star blitz player. Show him the view from the top, you know. But now I know there's no way home for me. I'm never gonna see him again. My dream's never gonna come true."
I've highlighted certain parts for emphasis.

I think Jecht just didn't know how to raise a kid, so he planned to teach him the only thing he knew he could: Blitzball.

And Tidus doesn't hate Jecht for the way he acts, he explains his hatred to Yuna in the farplane.

Tidus: I think I just figured something out.

Yuna: What?

Tidus: Why I hate my old man.

*Flashback. Jecht and Tidus' mom are standing together, looking out at Zanarkand.*

Jecht: See? So I told him what I thought of him, right there!

Tidus' Mom: Really?

Jecht: 'Course!

Tidus' Mom: I suppose, but...

Tidus: Mommy...

Tidus' Mom: Just a sec, dear.

"Whenever my old man was around, my mother wouldn't even look at me. Maybe that's when I started to resent him, even hate him. When he left us... Mom just lost her energy."
So it's really more about his what happened to his mother, Jecht himself didn't really do much of anything. Sure he was a tad on the arrogant side when it came to Blitzball, but he didn't hate Tidus or anything.

The crying thing of course ties into the whole Tidus losing his mother thing, he needs to move on.

Anyway I'll wrap this up with a quote of Auron and Tidus talking about Jecht:
Auron: Wait.

Tidus: Yeah?

Auron: Jecht loved you.

Tidus: Oh, come on, please!

Auron: He just didn't know how to express it, he said.

Tidus: Enough about my old man, okay?

Auron: I just thought you should know.
*Auron walks away*

*Tidus waits until everyone is out of earshot*
Tidus: Okay... Thanks.
I'd like to point out that I have nothing against Tidus either. I just felt it was needed to clarify how Jecht really felt about his son.

Honestly, I like the fact that they weren't completely clear on how Braska's journey was. I got to imagine how it was and was allowed to make everything up on my own. Still, it would have been nice to see. It also would have been a more serious game. I hated that bubblegum X-2 game after playing X *shivers*

I'm happy with how it panned out - a prequel following Braska would've been pointless because it would've been the exact same as X minus a lot of action and enjoyment. :wacky: They'd have to go back further than that to appeal to me. A film, maybe, would be appropriate for a prequel...but gameplay would be identical.

I actually didn't mind FFX-2. But I understand that a lot of people didn't think too highly of it. I thought its story was a welcome extension to that of X and it included the subtle references to FFVII. (And I don't know if it's common knowledge here, but a lot of people on my last forum didn't realise that FFX exists within the same universe as FFVII, but a long time before it and on a different planet. Sounded weird at first, but was confirmed by SE). So for those reasons, I enjoyed X-2.

But I actually felt excited when I even thought of a prequel about Braska's pilgrimage. That'd be an amazing tale I'm thinking. It'd offer a lot of backstory for X and would maybe fill in a lot more about the relationship between Jecht and Tidus. And we might have even got to see just how a guardian is sacrificed for the final summoning. I mean, actually SEE it. Though I doubt that SE would physically show it. It'd just be classier if it's left to the player's imagination.

But I believe that'd be a truly great game if it was to be made. Especially if it uses the turn based battle system of X. But I honestly can't say if I'd be willing to give up X-2 for a prequel or not.
