That makes perfect sense. Thank you! =)It's not so much about increasing your vocabulary as it is taking a good hard look at each sentence and knocking out some of the words you've already used before. If you use the same word too much in a short span of time, it becomes repetitive and can mess with the flow. I know I do it all the time, which is why I find myself, even after having posted the final product, going back to edit out some words or fix a sentence that may sound funny.
Otherwise, to answer your question about increasing vocabulary, I've always found that reading through other books (I'm an English major, so I read and own a lot of books) and looking at the different ways that authors word themselves. Just going to the library or bookstore with a pen and piece of paper and writing down words you think sound cool is one way to do it. Because not only are you seeing it being used in a sentence (and not just in one of those dictionary phrases), but it is also part of a bigger entity functioning as a whole...if that makes any sense. :3
