Chains - Confused! >_<

Ok, I just got this game recently, and I'm level 2 outisde of Giza Plains. Now, my question is, I was just hitting random buttons, when I did something called a "chain". I was wondering, how the hell did I do it? Instead of hitting once on an attack, it hit 2-3 times. I was pretty amazed, any information on this will be appreciated, I'm trying to look it up on gamefaq's and IGN's boards, but can't find anything

Chaining is when you kill multiple enemies of the same type in a row. The longer the chain, the greater the chance of dropping rare items and getting more/better loot.

As for attacking multiple times for one attack, that basically is determined by your weapon class, ninja swords for example being the most likely to give you multiple hits.
