Cloverfield

Haha I just saw Cloverfield todaaaay and it's rather pathetic the pictures people have come up with on Google Images.. but what I did notice is that there's a little similarity to it and Final Fantasy X  see if anyone notices it!
Brilliant film though, typical of the Lost creators to leave no conclusions for us whatsoever!!
Go see it :D

I saw Cloverfield a week or so ago....feh. Honestly, I was entertained but that was about it. To me it was just another "zomg! something be attacking NYC...again!" with a gimmick. I'm just gonna go ahead and post my review in spoiler tags...

The monster really wasn't very scary. I mean, props for creating an original monster, but I just didn't find it that terrifying. It also REALLY annoyed me that they went with cheap shots at 9/11. So many shots just screamed "WE'RE INVOKING 9/11! YOU GET IT YET?!" Cheap and in poor taste. I did like the shaky/authentic camera work, and it didn't make me sick. But that was really the only original angle to the movie, IF you can call it original. Blair Witch already did it. I also didn't really care about any of the character. When they all died, I just thought, "feh." Another thing that bothered me was the complete lack of closure. I know the way it was shot that they couldn't have a scientist stepping in and explaining everything (I wouldn't have wanted that), but SOME sort of closure at the end would have been nice.

So, all in all, it was entertaining but it certainly didn't live up to all the hype.

I saw Cloverfield *cough*online*cough* a little while ago. I admit my only interest was in the monster itself.

Over-all, it was pretty scary (for me at least). The scene that sticks in my head is when that girl explodes O_O

It really was nothing like 9/11. Trust Americans and their film critics to YET AGAIN moan about something over nothing. Overall it was a great film, the acting was very realistic, plot was good and sets itself up for a sequel perfectly. The effects in general were very good and apart from the first 10 minutes in which my head was spinning the amateur camera filming was a fantastic idea but eventually you become used to the constant movement of the camera. Albeit some of events weren't as realistic as they could have been I would still definitely recommend this film to anyone.

When she exploded I actually got shivers up my back, was like Godzilla meets *any random zombie virus film*
It is a creepy film but for me the monster was dead unrealistic.. at least with Godzilla you can kinda guess its a mutated reptile. The one thing I did like about Cloverfield was the fact it wasn't some pathetic, cheesy, romantic American hero film, with typical well known actors and music.

Im being careful not to see any spoiler tags as sadly the UK hasnt recieved this yet. Im mainly looking forward to the beast and Im a fan of self recording filming, like the Blair Witch. But I have been told it can make you abit ill after awhile.

Where abouts do you live in the UK because it came out here last Friday (Feb 1st)?

I really liked this movie, though I think I would have enjoyed it more if the camera work was better. I did have to look away since it started to hurt my eyes, and one of my friends had to leave since she was about to throw up.

It was a very suspenseful movie which I really liked. A few parts where actually scary, but I was disappointed with the monster, though kudos on an actual original design.

Um...you aren't from the United States, much less New York. So don't talk about people moaning over 9/11, kthx. It was a LOT like 9/11. As I was watching it, I was constantly reminded of 9/11. Some of the shots were very similar to pictures that were taken on that day. It didn't really offend me or anything, but it's like, can Hollywood please leave it alone already? Stop capitalizing on something that killed so many people such a short time ago. It's cheap and very disrespectful.

Actually, talkin' about Godzilla, that's what I actually thought the monster was when I heard it's cry/roar. XD It sounds alot like Godzilla from the movie featurin' the worm guy and the Godzilla babies.

I saw Cloverfield on Friday. My god did anyone else get motion sickness and a headache watching it?
It bothered me a bit, but not that much actually. My mom certainly got sick tho. XD

Blair Witch
Actually.... my step-dad did mention that it was alot like Blair Witch. :| Sadly, I can't say anything on the matter, 'cause I haven't seen Blair Witch.

And for the point of view, I really loved it. And I do agree, closure would have been good at the end, but jeez! It was pretty original compared to alotta the movies I've seen lately. :3

I absolutely loved the tunnel scene, where those lil monsters just snuck up on 'em! And it was so sad when they got the girl, and infected her... And Hud dying, that was sad! He was my favorite!

Wow, this film was crazy, I got so emotional through it and was grabbing my boyfriend left, right and center!
When Jason and Hud died I was beyond upset, I was getting to really like Hud and he reminded me of my boyfriend, but his death was not right IMO. Anyone in that film who wasin a couple, almost a couple was killed!
What the hell!

did anyone see the sataliette (sp) crash into the ocean at the end of the tape? Im thinking thats the creature crashing to earth.

i saw it tonight in a quiet cinema. it was pretty awesome though it took a while to get used to the camera, which WAS shakier (sp?) than Blair Witch.

i loved the parts when they got very up close and personal with the monster, which i thought was really well designed, not too flashy but still unique.

Marlena's Death was the best death of them all, and gives an insight to we might see in the sequel from the army's POV.

EDIT: Please use spoilers, its poilte and doesnt spoil the film for others. ~SS~

It was crashing to earth dropped by slusho (the company Rob was going to work for in Japan) which awakened the monster...which isn't actually dead because at the end it says "Its Still Alive"

^_^

I saw it on Friday, it was alright but nothing special really. The characters in particular were annoying as hell and really couldn't be arsed if they lived or died. And the ending was terrible, I hate films that don't have any sort of closure but since is a Abrams film I sorta expected it.

It'll be interesting to see how Cloverfield 2 will turn out, one of my mates told me that during the bridge sequence there was someone else with a camera and that the sequel may be based on that groups experience which I hope wouldn't turn out to be the case.

I loved every bit of this movie except the half-arsed ending. I loved how the cinematography and perspective was worked out, and the fact that it was taken using a video camera was pretty unique. Kinda heightens the tension, 'cause you're trapped in just the camera's perspective, and all you know and see is what the camera shows you (I thought that was pretty cool).

I like how they didn't overdo the monster(s) (there were 2 [or was there???] and the whole was really intense. They didn't overdo the horror (the only real scary thing was Marlena blowing up) and it was just excellent overall.

I can't wait to see the sequel.

Everybody I watched this with hated the movie. I on the other hand thought it was great. Mostly great because of the way it was recorded with a handheld camera...and of course the ending made the movie. I give it a 8/10.

I saw it awhile ago.

1 word = Fail. Took so logn to actually get into the whole monster thing. Only saw the monster like 5 times and you only see it's face atleast twice. Kind of stupid how the battery lasted so long in the movie, and how the guy never put the camera no matte what.

Tunnel scene was pretty cool. Bitch got pwned by the alien thing. So funny whe she like blew up, would of been better if you could actually see her blow up :neomon:

2/10 :P.

Kind of stupid how the battery lasted so long in the movie,

Understandable review, but one thing about the camera is it was only on as long as the movie was. He turned it on and off throughout the movie and pretty much only recorded what we saw...less then two hours. So its very plausible that it lasted that long.

Haha. I imagine how great the movie would've been if the monster was seen throughout the movie. That probably would've been sick. Kinda like Jaws 4 sick. :monster:

Someone dying every minute, monster destroying practically anything, the producers probably would've saved so much money by cutting all the actors and stuff. The emotion and drama could've been done away with pretty much, imo. Yeah, I think chaos and mayhem pretty much owns everything else. Like plot and suspense. Haha screw those.

Well Jaws is a good comparison to this movie.
Jaw's became so popular because people DIDN'T see him, get to use your imagination and keep in suspense. Thats the kinda vibe they were going for. I liked the fact that they let us keep our minds open throughout the movie on its looks, what it was doing and so on.
