How did I screw myself? just because you are out of range I don't see how that puts me at a disadvantage. And what does a cable in the andromeda galaxy have to do with anything? Not to mention it would probably be destroyed in space.

Yeah, a few glitches (loved discovering them) but on a regular playthrough you shouldn't notice them unless you are determined to locate them. Quite enjoyable and has a few challenging levels (damn crisis city).
It's an area effect, my own telekinesis can't kill me

Yeah, I have heard of crazy gadget being a pain. Crisis city itself isn't a nightmare to beat but getting S rank is, of that I assure you.
Like what? in all the games I have played area effect only affects allies/enemies. Not the caster unless it is involving allies.
For instance, the spell from star ocean 3 which Luther uses which unleashes an area effect flame wave hits all your characters but luther remains unscathed. And yes the flame does make contact with him.

It is a pain the last bit trying to work your around it is a giant pain.
