Yeah I know it has Fantasy in the title, so basically anythings possible. But did anyone else find breathing underwater unrealistic?

I mean, how was it possible? Tidus couldnt have learnt to hold his breath for that long in order to play Blitzball. And the kissing Tiuds/Yuna scene, they end up underwater and are both breathing fine.

I just dont understand this lol.

I heard they can just hold their breath for a long time or something like that O_O

And if everyone in spira can breathe underwater, then why can only 3 be used in water battles

Maybe they just said they could for pretty scenes like the lake scene? and for blitzball...it doesn't add up to be honest.

Yeah....thats kinda confusing.... Rikku, Wakka and Tidus can only fight underwater. Maybe the rest don't wanna ruin their outfits?

I thought it was unrealistic but it is fantasy game after all. Still odd that you can play Blitzball underwater for 20mins. FFX humans have gills? o_O

I remember something being said in the game that blitzball players can hold their breath for extremely long periods of time underwater. I think it just comes natural to Tidus and Wakka after awhile for being blitz stars for so long and having all that practice to do so. As for Rikku, it's strange, maybe it has to do with their Al Bhed heritage or something. I don't quite understand it myself, but you noticed that a rather large portion of that game is based around water. I think maybe that's just one the "fantasy" points within the game; that some people can hold their breath for a really long time underwater. Especially blitzball players.

you know it wierd you fight a giant dragon in the air . you can levle up on a shpere grid. you can summon a aeon but when you can breath underwater its unrealisitic come on people

And those things are seen as fantasy. Breathing underwater is seen as unrealstic as its not possible because of course people go swimming.
People dont go fighting dragons day in, day out nowadays do they?

people also dont solve trials in the mountains, play blitzball fight dragons, machina underwater do they (all of the underwater moments) who cares if the can breathe who know mabey wait a couple of days underwater and mabey you will run out of breath try it you might surprised

I've heard it explained as a magic spell which allows a person to breath underwater. The reason that three people in the party can't go into the water has to do with the fact that they can't swim in their battle clothes (notice that Yuna, Lulu, and Auron have clothes that would totally drag you down in water).

Dont be ridiculous. You'd drowned. The other examples youve mentioned are all fantasy also. Youre not really backing up your arguement here.

If you dont care, then dont post, simple.

Then you'd accept it if people were able to fly in FFX? Or if all Blitzball players had webbed feet? Or if the main party all decided to have a big orgy in Macalania Woods?

FFX is fantasy, but even a fantasy world has rules. Fantasy world doesn't mean anything can happen - it means different things happen because their world follows a different set of world properties. But on a very basic level, it must be relative to our own world or people wouldn't be able to give a damn beyond a few speculative minutes.

See, that I can understand. If they explain it, then whatever.

Yes but in some fantasy role playing games there is a water breathing limit. Only way you can break that limit is with a spell or a potion. Although it's a fantasy game, it doesn't mean it cannot be some what realistic.

Nomura doesn't seem to put a whole lot of thought into his designs beyond 'what looks cool'. He probably decided that logic wasn't a good enough reason to scrap the whole Blitzball idea but at the same time couldn't think of a decent explanation for why these guys can spend over 10 mins underwater, so he just left it ambiguous.

Troll.

Um, anyway...the breathing underwater things makes no sense to me. I suppose a spell would work though.

So true. That's exactly why Lulu has fifty functionless belts in her skirt.

Interesting answer. I guess it does seem cool and like you said alot of thought was placed into the idea of Blitzball and probably thought there was no need to explain it.

And yeah at Lulus skirt with the ulitmate hold up bra and 50 odd belts! They look cool, so the creators probably thought no one would question it lol

I'm just goin on a limb here, but bear with me :D Remember the movie Abyss? When the main guy went down into the depths thy put in his suit water, and he could breath in it, I can't remember now, but I think it contained something that allowed him to breath in it. Well maybe this is something like that :D
Call my logic crazy, but it does explain it i a way :D

It's all about holding your breath. In the epilogue in FFX: International (Another Side, Another Story or whatever it was called) it begins with Yuna practicing holding her breath underwater, and she gets to the longest she had yet (3 minutes, I think, it's been awhile since I watched it).

True, though, that there isn't much of anything to explain it in the main story, however.

Its a pity that it wasnt released on the other side of the pond because it sounds like an fun and interesting part.

Maybe it is in the air of Spira... when they take a long breath before the dive they inhale some weird substance in the air and they can breathe underwater. Also the spell ideea works with me.:D
