I don't see the huge problem with it being called Final Fantasy XI. Is it just because people want to play every single game in the series, but refuse to play the online version? I would have preferred Final Fantasy Online, but it hasn't hurt anything with its name.

In my opinion, it shouldn't even have the "XI". Like FFTactics, it could easily been a spin off title. They could easily have done something else for XI and just called this game "Final Fantasy Online". There is no need for the game to be apart of the main series.
While at the same time, they've hurt nothing by doing so.
Maybe not but probably have pissed off lots of people when they found out that the eleventh installment of the series was going to be an MMORPG. I think judging by this poll that the majority of the fans would have wanted the game nothing apart of the main series.
I never had a chance to play FFXI...
First of all, my parents refused to pay a monthly fee so that I could be further warped into the internet. Now that I'm free on my own and everything and a few years have passed...I look at it and think "it's probably not worth my while".

Why do you just assume it isnt worth your while ?
You should atleast give it a try, if you're a fan of the older FFs and Tactics you'd probably love it. And you could be paid 50cents a day and still come up with enough to pay the monthly fee. When i started playing I was 17 in highschool I just saved lunch money a few times a month to cover it.

This will probably be the final fantasy I will never play. Unless they bring it out for PS3(which I should be getting in the near future). That would be a relief. I hate the fact that I might never play a main FF game...
Uhm, I have to assume you have a PS2, because you'd need one to play all the FFs but this one right? well FFXI is and has been on the PS2 for years.

i don't care, as long as the game is good... where FFXI did fail a bit(a lot of grinding in the start and it takes way too long before you can start grouping)

I would have called it FFOnline. Same here, it has left a space in my collection. I dont consider it to be part of the main series.
You can start grouping from level 1, you should at about lvl 10... you can get to lvl 10 in only a few hours. Just because you did a lot of grinding in the start, doesnt mean theres nothing to do but grind. When I first started playing me and a few friends were at lvl 5-6 for about a week and we had fun just exploring. We had fun traveling to the other 2 starting towns on foot and doing the first few missions and quest
I'm sorry I just dont understand the blind hate most Final Fantasy fans have for FFXI.

FFO! They really did alienate a lot of fans when they did that. Its actually kind of sad that now you know that all of those fans are not hxc and they would not buy a 360 and stuff just to play it and then get their internet taken away as a sacrifice for dish. Wow...my life story lol.

Unfortunately not in the UK. Plus it would be easier to connect to the internet with a PS3.

I think the "numbered" FF series was lost when FFIII wasn't released in the US. So the number order was rearranged to omit it only later to release it as a DS game. . . and so on. Now that's not fair. Not to mention the other games "tactics" or "chronicles". They were FF, but not deserving a number.
I don't think at this point naming any new FF games 1 2 3 5 10 11 or whatever makes any difference. We'll just call them "The New FF Games - that are coming out" or something like that. lol
