Where does power really come from?
Does it come from a specific point, or does it come from equally different sources?
If any of these apply, then what, or rather, where exactly does it come from?

I'll give a few possible ones to start it off.
Power comes from:
1.) Support and supporters
2.) Money
3.) Possessions
4.) Strength
5.) The trait of being feared by others

The main question being, why do some people get as much power as they do?

Power comes from what you have that others don't. eg. Bill Gates.. I believe he is the unofficial ruler of the world as practically every country uses his products

This topic is far too wide to interpret. Are we talking about power for a country, organization or power for a person? (Though, I personally believe you mean the latter). Depending on which you want to hear, I'll post.

Let's say for now it's power for a person, though in reality, it could go for everyone =\

Then it means the power to dominate others, to influence and lead.

Money will help towards that goal, as will a political position.

A sense of psychology is a requirement as the way we talk to others can make subtle changes in the way we are interpreted.

As for me, I'd prefere a nice cup of tea.

Power is given by the people...if the people are weak then one individual will end up taking advantage of that weakness and reach new heights.

If even the weak people came together then as a unit they would be strong and there would not be a few single powerful individuals.

Jimmy, that's just a great outlook.
I couldn't have said it better myself. :D

The people as a whole in 'political law' countries don't have much power as opposed to 'common law' nations, which are much more stable.
It's most likely a mere illusion to democracy that they are giving, i.e. the people in power.

So in a sense, yeah, I agree, the people have the power and some individuals, notably the dictators, just siphon it off and that's where it comes from, but there's obviously more ways than one.

I mean think about it, the dictators would never have risen to power without support from their people.

Well, look at the continuing cycle of government in the ancient world (Greece/Rome). One person will always stand out from the rabble and so we have a Tyranny (That is not always a bad thing, it just means a single person with absolute power).

In time others will question the nature of a tyranny and so it is replaced by an oligarchy (rule by the few). This works fine untill the common folk say "Hey, I want in!". Thus Oligarchy is replaced by republicism. Which is great for everyone untill corruption becomes widespred and so the people demand a strong leader... thus Imperialism, or Tyranny again, or monarchy ... repeat ad infinitum..
