But this question's been bugging me for a while now so I'll just ask it.
Why were the Jews persecuted?
I mean, what was the point? As far as I've learned, there shouldn't have been any reason to persecute them. It only served to highlight the inconsistencies of christian doctrine, i.e. be pious, godly.
