ok, so as the title says, i'm gonna buy this game, and well, i don't wanna make terrible mistakes as i did in FFX(which was my very first FF i completed, i did play 1, 2 and 4, but never got the spirit to go all out on them)

now i'm going for numbuh 12
perhaps not the best, but i need something to keep me busy when i'm not in the mood for MMO'ing

here are my questions...

what should i watch out for when i start out?
how's the combat system?
how's the progressing system?

thanks

PS: don't say "good" or bad" please explain how it goes

If you start the game you must find out what chests not to open, if ya do open them you will not be able to get the best weapon in the game. Well there is another way but its a 1/1000 chance.

^^ I find that stupid. I'd rather have the Masamune + Genji Glove combo. I have the spear, but I don't use it, its crap-o-la.

But I suggest a guide, because theres a lot of exploring to do in the game.

I hate the combat system, look up some videos on google. This games shouldn't even be called Final Fantasy.

The progression? I take that as storyline? It's crap. Nothing is complicated, its extremly dull. It's about the EXACT same storyline of FFII, but with minor differences.

I think the hame is great, storyline isnt bad, and love the battle system. This is the first Final fantasy I bought and I dont regret it.

FFX i borrowed lol, lucky i didnt buy that. But get it, its great

hah. We'll leave him to decide that won't we?

You'll have to watch out for some monsters later on called rare game, which are basically rare monsters but are a bit tougher then your average area beastie. There are also some normal monsters, such as the werewolves in Giza plains, during one of your first visits to the plains, that you have to watch out for. They are at level 21, and they will easily slaughter you if you get too close.

Enemies also like to gang up on you. So watch out for that.

The battle system - no random battles. It is still technically turn based..but think of it as more of an advancement on a similar battling style to X-2, where several members could attack at once. This game, you just move/walk around in battle like you should do, while attacking.

The License Grid is easy to use, not as long as the Sphere Grid. A good tip is to make sure your main party learns a lot of white magic. It will come in useful. Learn charge early on too. I still use it regularly when I am in tough areas, with no little to non MP, and no save crystal around.

Be careful with Quickenings - practise against a few normal enemies, try and get to grips with building a good chain, just so you are ready to use them if need be in a boss battle. Sure, they are a wee bit over the top..but they're god damn flashy and useful.

If you don't like the no random battle thing..well, the elimination was well delayed. It should have been eliminated in X really. Despite it being a big thing for FF, to use the same method of encountering monsters all the time is going to drag. In XII, it actually feels like you are having proper battles.

Storyline..well..I liked it, can't say for sure if you would like it. There is no love story, which pleased me greatly. However, there is love in obvious forms. Like, a love for your nations people etc..

Characters are pretty good. You'll probably end up liking Balthier, nobody really dislikes him (I do, his attitude bugged me). VA's and graphics are out of this world, though Balthier's and Vaan's to me..a little bit off.

Some of the Imperials sound seriously bad, it's blooming hilarious.

Well, I'm done.

ty... very informative post <3

additionally, i'll try the guide and movies too

i just watched a movie, and i saw the character that was being followed was Vaan, is it possible to play as another character? or are you "bound" to Vaan?

i did see the person playing using another party member using a spell, but i actually mean wether it's possible or not if you can watch from another character's point of view...

Yeah you can control other party members in battle if that is what your asking. You swich to what party member you want to control, although in towns i think you have to be vaan.

i meant moving around with another character, and fighting from its point of view, guess that's what you mean?
Yeah but you can't be in a town. Well as far as i know anyway because i just stick with vaan. But i'm sure someone can build on what i have just said.

You can fight with another character's point of view but when you are going through towns and villages, it is through Vaan's point of view.

All I'm going to say is don't expect a lot fro m this game.

You might like it but let me tell you there is no love in this game. But i thought it was fun. There is no final fantasy game that everyone likes and there are alot of people who really like this game and alot of people who do not like it.

Didn't you give it a high percentage though in the other thread? :P

You mean this post?

FFIII - 85%
FFIV - 89%
FFVI - 93%
FFVII - 97%
FFVIII - 90%
FFIX - 100%
FFX - 82%
FFXII - 79%

I did enjoy the game but compare to other Final Fantasy titles and the hype that surrounded the game, it was a let down in my opinion. Still like Cloud said, not everyone shares the same opinion as me.

well, most people hated FFX-2, and i think it totally rocks, so well :P

anyhow, i'm happy i don't have to fight while looking at cissy-boy

True, it's just my opinion. Besides, if you play the game not expecting much and you end up enjoying it then you will probably appreciate the game more.

Well, funny thing is I bought this game, only to come home and find out my PS2 got broken, so I had to go to my friend's house and play it.. I didn't get very far.. Got lost in the first city, and had no idea what the heck I was doing.. Battles were kinda lame, treasure chests rarely had anything good in them.. Whoo hoo.. 1 gil.. I swear I found like 50 of those in the first area.. ><

But I can't really say it wasn't a good game, because I didn't get very far at all.. I still haven't gotten a PS2, so my friend still has the game at his house. Meh. I'm not even interested in it anymore, tbh.

Amen to that, if I were you Raptorg, I wouldn't buy this game, it's such a waste of money and a huge disapointment

I don't think it's a 'huge' disappointment. There are parts in it that are bad (like every FF) but there are alot more parts that are good (like every FF ^_^)

I liked the combat system and IMO it was a much welcomed change. The story isn't that strong and there were a couple of times I was wondering what the hell was going on but once I figured it out I enjoyed it.

People like you make me laugh when you don't even bother to back up your opinion with reasons.

Lucky, you actually figured it out.. Here I am, stuck for an hour or so, and I have to resort to asking my friend, who points out the map key in like 3 seconds.

For the story, it didn't seem all that great to me either, but remember, I only played for about 10 hours altogether.. and I was stuck for like 3. I suppose it isn't that bad, but it was still the worst FF that I've played.
