So I'm thinking of getting a 360 this year for my birthday and I was wondering if anyone here has had RRoD problems from this year's set of consoles. I've heard about all the breakdowns but so far I've heard positive reviews for the 2008 batch of consoles because of hardware improvements.
Any truth to this?

Yes it is very true. Are you talking about the batch that cost $199. Cause thats the one i got, left it on for four ours straight didn't get the RRod. Of course you wouldn't want to do that everyday though, thats 360 cruelty.

It has become a big scandal lately and most likely if things continue this way you will get your money back if you have problems. Microsoft will have to pay back all the money they've made on Xbox for the past three years. So I say go with it and don't worry. Because if a problem does arise you'll get your money back.

Well...I haven't had an Xbox break down on me in about a year, so I guess that means they're getting better.

When the Xbox 360 first hit shelves, I was replacing the damn things every three or four months. So yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about the RRoD. Even if you did run into issues, Microsoft offers a two year warranty. You won't be forking out extra cash to keep an operational Xbox 360 in your house.

odd, I must have been one of the lucky ones...still on my first xbox 360 and its going strong...

but they do seem to have addressed many of the overheating and hardware issues on the newer models, so if your looking for a decent console I say go for it!

Alright, thanks for the feedback. I wan't really banking on spending $500 on an PS3 with my first paycheck. :D

You gotta tell me though, do those defective 360's ever sound like airplanes? I really want to know. xD

I think for the most part all Xbox's good or bad sound like an airplane.
I loved the array of games for the system, but it drove me to the edge eventually with the problems.

Interesting. :monster:

Now on to my next question. Should I get the $299 one or the Arcade $199 one? What's the main difference apart from the built in memory system?

The main--and as far as I know, the only notable--difference is that the Arcade model doesn't come equipped with a hard drive. It comes with a memory card, but if you plan on making full use of your console, you'll most certainly need a hard drive, which runs about...I don't know...roughly $100.

So in the end, you'll probably be spending the same amount of money. You'll have a memory card unit, at least. Oh, and does the Arcade model come with the free Xbox Live Arcade games still? I think so.

You might be able to get a little extra if you go with the Arcade model.

well i have a elite and it has 120 GB and it has been running strong ever since i bought it.:highfive:

Well i have had one friend who had his pro system (im not sure whether thats the right name) but he had to send it in 3 times and he bought it when it came out ive also had another friend who had a similar story. If i were you i would spend the extra money to avoid RRoD.

But im not saying that the elite is devoid of errors it just seems more reliable to me. Its your call really

I bought a 360 shortly after it was first released, and didn't experience any problems with it up until a year after owning it. It was a little annoying, but MS was extremely helpful and had it back to me, free of charge, in no time. I recently bought a 360 Elite, and haven't experienced any problems thus far (*knock on wood*), but it's only been roughly five months.

In all honesty, even if you experience the RRoD, it's not all that big of deal (from my experience of course) as MS tries their best to resolve the issue quickly and conveniently.

If I were trying to choose between the two, I'd go for the $299 model. But I'm a bit of a gear head, and I want the best, most expensive one. Plus, it comes with the harddrive, which saves you from purchasing one later down the road when your memory card is full. But really, it depends on how much you're willing to spend, what you prefer, etc.

well Ive had my Xbox 360 ever since they've came out and mine is working without problems. Maybe the disc tray is a little slow coming out but I don't know if it's normal because Ive had it so long. Depends on how you treat them really
