I've heard many people say this game sucked. Why?

Many people have complained the FFVIII was too futuristic and didn't reflect the true FF personality. So later Square Enix went back and made FFIX which seemed to look more like an original FF. So why do people not like this game. The first time I played this game I didn't like it, but I enjoyed it the second time. Just what was so bad about this game?

I think that maybe it didnt live up to the Hype That FFVII (And I suppose VIII) Created. I personally loved this game and ive said it before and ill say it agen IX is the 3rd best final fantasy ever :

Top 3 FF's

VII
X
IX

I really couldn't tell you I loved FFIX! It is one of my faves.

But I am guessing also that it has to do with the success of VII and the all the hype created for the next games in the series.

I actually played more of IX before VII, since I only started getting heavily into FF until a little before IX came out. And I have a lot higher opinion of IX than most other seem to. Coincidence? I don't know...lol

Alls I gotta say is... If you liked FFVI theres no reason for you to hate FFIX because there are ALOT of similarities between the two games.

Anyways I personally loved it. My favorite summon in all of the FF titles is Leviathan and I thought he was his best in FFIX as well. The story was great it was not bad or descent it had its little plot twists here and there. Character's all had a good back story too and they actually had a diffrent personality.

Its like the last person said, I think people just compared it to FFVII and FFVIII and were expecting something more. Not to mention a majority of american FF players were introduced to FF when FFVII came out so some dont even know how to look at FFIX when they have never even experienced the feel of the older games, which I thought FFIX braught back.

It really was not that bad of a game, but when you compare it to other FF games it does not compare. I thought the game was just too easy. I never got lost, never had a problem with battles, and never had money issues. The game just did not post a challenge for me. Also the lack of character development in some of the later characters didn't help my opinion of the game.

This is tied with FFX-2 for worst game.

FFIX was my first and favorite Final Fantasy. Might be my favorite game of all time.

I've only played VII, IX, and X though.

It doesn't appear that too many people here hate IX afterall......

And they shouldn't, it's a good game!

I thought the game was very straight forward though I don't really understand how the crystal played a role because I thought they would play a similar role as in FFI. Guess not.

I can't say I hate it nor loved it but I did enjoy it very much. I thought it was the graphically best looking FF game.

i always did like this one, not as much as VI or VII, but i thought it was good. maybe since it resembled the earlier games, the negative reactions could have come from people who didn't play any before VII. i did find it odd, however, that the last boss kind of came out of nowhere.

Agreed~! They're my two favourites.

The FMVs are breathtaking, the music awe-inspiring, and the storyline is very mythical. I think a big part of the problem for some people is that the storyline can be hard to follow.

I loved this game, excluding the original tactics, its my second favorite FF ever. And, really, I think the only people who didn't like it were the ones who never really got into it enough and stayed on the surface. I loved this game, because the graphics are better than some PS2 games, the storyline was awesome, the characters and growth system were out of the park, and it was(i think anyways) the first one to really go deep into the different races thing. I mean, the others had them, but they weren't really all that big on it. if I'm wrong, its probably because I've only played parts of V and VI and all the way through VII through X-2 and XII.

Well, it took me up until Disc 3 to realise it was crap. (I joke) x3 I stopped playing at Disc 3 cause it got impossible.

It was a good game, not that I remember much of it. But to me it was an enjoyable game, but it comes before the (phailure) of X-2. I've played better.

Well, it is after all, a good game, Ive seen some worse...

My overall ranking for the FFs ive played is:

1st: FF VII
2nd: FF XII
3rd: FF X
4th: FF VII:Dirge of Cerberus
5th: FF IX
6th: FF VIII
7th: FF Tactics Adv.
8th: FF V
9th: FF VI
10th: FF Mystic Quest
----------------
Unranked: FF I, FF II, FF X-2

I mention these, because they are the ones ive played, the unranked ones are the ones i havent played seriously, just surfaced.

I think ff9 was a fantastic game, the charcaters, the storyline and etc was fantastic. people are just over rating ff7 too much.

Truthfully, FF9 is my favorite one. It is not the best one, I'll admit, but There is something about it that makes it my favorite. I think It's because I love happy endings and fairy tales and what not. It just seemed.....nice. (man I sound gay) whatever.

Well I can compare a few things with FFVI and FFIX...-

1) Kefka & Kuja both betrayed those they were working for (Emperor Gastahl & Queen Brahne).

2) After betraying their kings / queens they gained unimaginable power. They both destroyed their world and you were left to play through the "Aftermath" of things (except in Kuja's case, he destroyed Terra, came back to Gaia and darkened/blocked the world with the mist), Kefka simply destroyed it and moved the continents with his power. They both accomplished the same task although the outcome is slightly diffrent.

3) Emperor Gestahl & Queen Brahne both obtained the power of the Espers by using Terra and Garnet. Keep in mind Terra and Garnet are practically the same. They have no recollection of their past untill later on in the game and they both have a great affinity towards the Espers (Terra was half Esper, Garnet is a part of a Summoner Tribe).

4) Gastahl & Brahne were both good till they became power hungry for the Espers power.

5) Amarant (Bounty Hunter), Shadow (Mercenary) - Occupation = Same shit.

6) Celes & Beatrix also play the same roles regardless of the fact that Beatrix is a temporary/guest character.

I think there were other similarities... but I cant remember them at the moment :P
