URP - an alternate universe Avatar rp, after Aang died.

Name:
Dong Zhi
Age: 42
Gender: Male
Nation: Water Nation
Bending Arts: Waterbending
Side: Good

Appearance: Regular standing, at 5'8". His hair is still black, worn half up. Twin bangs hang on each side of his face. Let down, the rest of his hair would reach his chest. The hair on his face is a small goatee, and would prefer to be called smart. Dong's body is fairly well built; at his age, exercise and training are necessary for fighting, protecting, and lengthening life. His eyes are blue, as expected from Water nation people. His skin is light brown. Dong wears the formal dark-blue Northern Water Tribe attire: a sleeveless anorak, trousers, and mukluks. No mittens and two layers of clothing. Being 42, his face has wrinkles coming on.

Personality: Dong's personality varies from all-around perverted to rowdy, to calm, and to serious. He's not afraid to be friendly to people, though that's only when the situation allows, and he's very silent once he gets quiet. This applies to people in general. Usually, he carries a perfect serenity about him. Rarely, this is broken by the chiding of his actions being called weird and going against all other people's expectations. At those times, his mind undergoes a short storm and he just sits or stands where he is for a while, unable to focus.

Bio: Born in the Northern Water tribe partly deaf, Dong led as close to an overall normal and boring life with parents and three sisters as the second eldest as anyone can get. Until he figured out he was a waterbender. At the early age of five in winter, as he reached for clusters of falling snowflakes, he noticed more than a cluster gathered to his hand. Calling out to his nearby sisters to show the new trick, he was let down by the fact that they were bending the snow into snow seals, snow igloos, and even a close imitation to a tree. Turning his attention to his space, Dong lifted his hands upward in the way his sisters had done, thinking about snow moving and forming into a block. It went as planned. His life didn't go as planned, however. Around the other kids, Dong was treated as an outcast for his bad hearing, preferring to stay away from him and his quiet behavior. But the boy only acted so because he wasn't sure what others were saying. At play time he would sit on a horizontal pole or seat and stay there, thinking about events in his life, people, theories, whatever to pass the time. It gave his mind exercise. This went on for a while until a girl decided to sit by him and talk. This shook Dong's busy mind at the time and gave him a small jolt at the unusuality. No one ever took the time to be friendly to him before. After a few hardships with communication, they managed to talk and be friends. The boy learned that people are nice; they can be trusted. After finding out that the girl would be moving somewhere else in the world, Dong was fine with it and gave his fond good-byes.

Wanting to learn more about waterbending, Dong asked his parents to have him attend healing classes with his sisters. They were reluctant and denied him that. They explained that his hearing might get in the way of getting all the information through. Sadly, Dong nodded and accepted their reply. In the meantime at age eight, he did individual exercises. Far from his home, he opened up a hole in the ice and made a room for himself. Within, he learned how to move water around himself from the air to control temperature, create various figures from snow and ice, to change the state of water, and, most importantly, create a form of water in his ears which increased his hearing to above average. In the time without hearing though, his senses of sight and touch improved, giving him the ability to feel objects in water-based materials and observe small details. Nearly everything was a stimuli for discovery; for those things he couldn't explain or answer on his own he looked to the books sitting around in the house shelves or from the friendly monks in the temples and read anywhere comfortable. Outside of his ice room, he would go to the shore and practice pulling large waves of water and surf. At night he would look to the sky, to the moon.

Eventually, he had gotten his parents to agree to let him attend a healing class. That was at age twelve. In just under 3 months, Dong finished learning all he needed to know about the healing arts.

The family was no doubt enthralled, except for his sisters. They merely listened indifferently and went off about their business. In response, Dong had grown a detachment to his sisters.

Pakku, the resident waterbending master, had noticed Dong's advancement in his own waterbending skills. Approaching him as he was at a shore, Pakku offered to teach Dong about the ways of waterbending. This was confronted with a wild 'Of course!'

Under Pakku's intense teachings, Dong managed to master waterbending. In a candle-lit chamber, he had also been told about bloodbending. By accident, Dong had lifted himself off the ground. Pakku handed Dong a pai sho White Lotus tile and told him about the conquest of the Fire nation for world domination. Of fire, destruction. In his mind, Dong imagined people dying, getting robbed, starving in prisons. As he was born in a somewhat as unlucky position, being an outcast, he felt sympathy for these people and absolved to help fight against the antagonists. Pakku had also told him of the Avatar, Aang, and how he was trying to stop the fire lord Ozai from doing so.

As part of the Order of the White Lotus, Dong had a place in keeping balance in the world. He learned from fellow members about peace, war, fighting, and unity. He still does. At age 18, he left his home to help people around the world. As a side quest with some White Lotus members, he visited Wan Shi Tong's library to gather and give information from the books and to the fox knowledge gatherers. Four years later, Dong learned of Aang's death to Azula's lightning. A year later, the world fell almost wholly to the Fire Nation. With the Order of the White Lotus, he hid. Secretly, they took down small brigades of the Fire nation. But that wasn't enough. A new Avatar was needed. Upon realizing this, Dong returned to the Northern Water tribe, waiting for the day one would show up.

[He likes tea and cake, btw.]
