What Is Up With That Wolf?

You May Have Noticed A Wolf That Shows Up Numerous Times Throughout AC. But Ive Always Wanted Know What The Hell It Is And What Is It Doing There? I Remember A Friend Telling Me That It Was Zack's Spirit Reancarnated From The Lifestream But I Dont Know, What Do You Think?

I've also heard that it represents Zack in the story and everything, but to be complete honest with you, I ahve no idea. All I've heard so far have been rumors and such, but no concrete evidence. I'm thinking that Crisis Core could shed some light on that when it's released on the PSP here soon hopefully since it is mainly Zack foucsed.
