How is this possible? The rich man is loaded with money and is probably really powerful to boot but he says his life sucks? The same goes for the poor man who has almost nothing material, he lives in way below the poverty line yet he says his life is awesome nevertheless. So what is the difference here? Is it the class of person they are or it is their perceptions of their environment?

The same goes for most things in life, everyone is different yet we all live on the same planet, we all do almost the same things all the time. We all live, we all die.
What baffles me is this, just what is reality? I can research math equations, apply logic all over the place and look up philosophers but it may not answer my questions even if they help me in the right direction.

The first part of your question [or assertion] is purely, and I've seen this before, religious/philosophical falsification. I beg you to ask any person living under the poverty line if they believe this to be true, I welcome you to travel Latin-America and experience the true misery and economical neglect towards the masses of ignorant lower-class workers, and ask them if they are happy.

Is it possible for the rich man to be unhappy? Yes, absolutely, but his unhappiness stems not from his wealth, rather from his ambition to acquire even more wealth. An endless loop of spending exorbitant amounts of money and obsessing over making even more is what causes his misery. Not wealth.

Reality is quite simply, what we can perceive through our only medium of processing and interaction:

-Our brains.

The question is: "Why is reality subjective?" Rather than what "Reality is"

It is a question of philosophical expediency.
