Help Upgrading weapons Disc 4

Hi all,

I started playing FF 8 again a few weeks ago, and yesterday I finally managed to reach Ultimecia's castle. Before entering it I looked up some secrets I might have missed, like the Deep Sea Research Center. I read the walkthrough to defeat Ultima Weapon and it had the phrase "If you have Squall's Lionheart, it would greatly help defeating Ultima Weapon".

Then it hit me, ever since Disc 2 I stopped upgrading because for the more advanced weaponry you need rare items from reasonably strong monsters. My plan was to level up before entering Ultimecia's Castle and stock up these rare items in the meanwhile.

Now I'm in the decompressed world (or something like that) and have just defeated that dozen of sorceresses that attack you. Right before entering the Castle I jumped through a portal, took the Ragnarok, finished some secret stuff, went levelling up and gathered a bunch of items.

Then my plan was to visit a city with a junk shop and upgrade my weapons. However, every city has this "flashy aura" around it, preventing me from entering the city. This means I can't upgrade my weaponry anymore and I'm stuck with 3rd-tier material.

So, is there any way to get into a city later on, or am I "screwed" and do I load a previous save point from Disc 3 (25 hours earlier :( ) to get them weapons?


PS: Apologies for the wall of text when it all comes down to a simple question :D
 
This can help

You can learn the ability Junk Shop from the GF Doomtrain. You will need the GF alexander to make remedy +'s. You need 6 steel pipes, 6 marlboro tenticles, and 6 remedy +'s, and the solomon ring. When you have all these try to use the ring in the menu and you should get the GF.
 
Doesnt the Tonberry GF have an ability to call shops? You can get all the materials needed for the weapons and use call shop to call the shop to get them made. No worries. Well getting the GF may be kinda tough, but its worth it.

Yes tonberry has Call Shop but thats just for items. Doomtrain has Junk Shop which is the weapon shop (which Tonberry lacks). So yeah The OP needs doomtrain and it wouldn't hurt to get Tonberry.
 
Already have all the GF's, except for Doomtrain as it needs some rare items (like Marlboro Tentacles) which I planned on getting at the final moment.

Didn't know Doomtrain has that ability, which is a huge relief.

Marlboro Tentacles can be made from the Card Mod ability. Just play cards and win some Marlboro cards and when you have enough you can card mod them. Its harder for me to do it this way but if you've been doing all the card side quests so far chances are you have enough. A lot of people go to the island closest to heaven and hope for a odin appearence.
 
Just as an aside, don't you have to summon Doomtrain before Lunatic Pandora turns up above Esthar? Or am I thinking of something else?
And do you have to go through the portal to get back to the real world directly after the tonnes of Sorceresses or can you do it after you've reached the castle?

You can get doomtrain on Disk 4. I think the ring appears only after the lunar cry but I'm not sure. You may be able to get it right when you hit esther. You'd have to check on that.

You can leave the castle at any point before Ultimecia. You can even get Eden off of Tiamat and leave. :)
