Honorable Mentions.

If there's already a thread like this, then I apologize. Disclaimer out of the way.

You know those games that leave an impression on you, but they didn't exactly make it to your favorites list? Whenever you see a review for them or an old ad, you feel slightly nostalgic. What would they be? Well, these are mine.

10) Super Castlevania IV - I'm not much of an old video game person but this is a pretty good game. The gameplay is probably one of the best of any SNES game that I've played. The music's good and the atmosphere is creepy, in a play on Halloween kinda way. It goes on the list.

9) Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - I love the LoK games. They're like my second favorite series. The games have such rich story lines and the voice acting is just phenomenal. This game was fun when I was a kid but as I got older I found that it wasn't that much fun. The game would tend to drag on and camera angle made the game hard as Hell to play. But, it's still a good game. Not one of my favorites but worth nothing.

8) Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days - Okay, this is a hard game for me to really talk about. I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed but at the same time, it was a really good game. The plot is well thought out, the story along with the characters are really dark for the series, and the co-op system was cool. But I couldn't help but feel that something was missing. The just wasn't that charm of the other games. I don't know what it was but there just was something not quite there.

7) Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - Probably one of the more overlooked games in the series. I don't see why though. It was a great addition to the series. It was very well developed. It introduced elements that would be implemented into Peace Walker and it set the scene for the rise of Big Boss's army. It was a great game.

6) Syphon Filter 2 - These games were kinda like a gem of the first PS console. Not alot of people that I've talked to remember these games but I thought they were really good. Granted, they haven't exactly aged well. But I loved the second game when I was younger. I owned it recently again but I ended up selling it because it had just lost it's charm. The rest of the series was just kinda there but this game has still stuck to my memory and I fondly remember playing it as a child.

5) Final Fantasy VIII - I'm aware that quite a few people on this site love this game, but this was more of a passing curiousity to me. The graphics were far superior to FF VII. The characters were very well developed. And the story is really good. It's one of my more favorite games in the series but I don't play it much. It just sits on my shelf, aging slowly. I'll get around to playing it again, just not right now.

4) Rogue Galaxy - This game had alot of hype before it's release, but I didn't hear a word out of anybody about it like a week after it came out. This game's incredibly corny, but I thought well made. Though, there are some rather apparent cliches, it doesn't distract much.

3) Devil May Cry - This games is still fucking awesome and I feel is still superior to the other games in its series. The enemies and the setting are epic. The graphics are impressive for the year it came out. The voice acting could've been alot better but what are ya' gonna do? I do, however, prefer the controls of the third game to this one. It's a timeless game that has yet to lose it's hold on me. I remember being like eleven and plaything this game. It scared the shit out of me. While that's not true now, it does bring back those chilled memories.

2) Vagrant Story - If anyone played this game, it's kinda hard to forget. It's like the perfect Gothic game. It's so dramatic and gritty, yet so majestic and magical. The characters are like something out of a Edgar Allen Poe story and the setting is out of Shakespeare. I thought the combat system was refreshing. And the monsters you fight are just classic. Golems, dragons, goblins. It's just so awesome. One of those games ya gotta appreciate.

1) The Legend of Dragoon - Does anyone remember this game? It was fucking awesome. It's just a well told epic story of mystical elements and unsespecting people thrown into a war between a God and many mythical little assholes. It was just great. I remember my friend trying to get me to play this game and I was reluctant but after awhile I could really see why he loved this game. It's just superb. I don't have much bad to say about it so I'm gonna end on a clean note.

So, those are mine. What are yours?

1. Final Fantasy VI.

I did really like this game, but to me it falls just short of true greatness because of it's graphics. I had played FF VII-IX before I got FF VI for the Playstation, so I was used to much more epic and cinematic visuals in my Final Fantasies. It wasn't just the fact that it wasn't in 3D though. I think even compared to other SNES RPGs, FF VI looks less than stellar. A game like Chrono Trigger (to me at least) still looks amazing whereas FF VI just looks incredibly dated.

2. Warcraft 2.

I loved this game when I was younger and my friends and I played it religiously over LAN. I recently revisited it and it really hasn't aged very well. It was probably good for it's time and I was probably more impressionable when I was younger, but playing it today I find it mind numbingly tedious.

3. Animal Crossing.

A lot of people find this game absolutely pointless, but from time to time I enjoy the virtually non-existent pace of it. There's something almost meditative about just bumming around, fishing, catching bugs, catching bugs or whatever without any particular overall goal in mind. I'd never put it on a list of my favourite games, but it's still great and when I'm in the mood for it there really is nothing like it.

Couldn't think of ten off the top of my head, but perhaps I'll return later and add some more to the list.
