Ok Gabranth made this thread in terms ok FFXII but i think it refers to alot of games these days. Back in the day games seemed to last a while but these days they seem so short. Maybe I'm just a better gamer but I still think the stories go by so quickly. I deffinatly see this in FF's and also I havent played any other games in years that have taken me a good lenght in time to complete. Games these days seem to be about Graphics and online playability which is great but where is the old ''lets make it so long we will need several discs to put it on'' attitude?

I haven't really noticed this as much mainly because I rarely get to finish games due to the fact that I'm constantly buying new games. I'll agree that it seems like more games are getting shorter but it's not all about storylines.......I like to do all the side quests or missions in RPGs too. Those help to boost play time a bit.

One reason games aren't on multi-discs like the old FF games is because DVDs hold far more than a regular disc could possibly hold. When I bought Baldur's Gate for PC, it had around 5 discs but the new DVD version is just on one DVD if I remember. Plus I didn't like the fact that you had to change the discs. The only game I know that's more than one DVD is Blue Dragon for 360 (it's 3 DVDs).

Although I don't play online (though I'd like to one day), I assume the ability to play online would be a boost to the game rather than make it worse.

Depends on the game of course and the genre but most games I play these days still last around the same amount of time. There hasn't been a game recently which I've played for less than 12-15 hours beyond things like Wii Sports and WarioWare.
