A RPG needs a final boss. It is the thing all the characters are together to defeat. I can't really see a game ending without a final fight. Maybe having the final boss before a small dungeon at the way end would be ok but, if there was no final boss due to someone else killing him or his monsters being to strong. Wouldn't that someone else try to kill you to or the monsters just attack you like they attacked their master?
I final boss is needed in every RPG, if there isn't one what have you been training for?

IMO, you train in order to be able to reach the end of the game, not only in order to beat the final boss, or any monster for that matter.

I don't actually train anyway, I just fight anyone I meet and that's all.
I don't really "training" for a certain reason.
My goal is to see the whole plot of the game, from the beginning to the very end. I don't really care that much about who I defeat and whatever I actually defeat anyone. I just want the plot!

An enemy of an enemy is an ally :)
If someone beats the bad guy, he can as well be a good guy and not a more evil bad guy.

As for monsters, I meant something like Espers which go out of control.
They kill their own summoner and thus disappear as well after that.

I think a final conflict is needed but maybe a different kind of conflict. Maybe the conflict can be internal, such as If I am strong enough to beat this villain which has so far eluded everyone what does that mean for me and everyone else? Am I strong enough to be just as conquering as he/she was or was I just able to deal the killing blow? Did I beat him because I had a party with me or could I have done it alone? Should I kill or is there another way?

Or maybe, the conflict stems from the world being so chaotic, and the villain is not evil but someone with god like (reality controling) power who sits back and watches because performing destructive actions would be redundant in such a world. You really have no way of even raising a finger to him, but maybe you can force his hand just for this particular situation to end the suffering of your world.

All I know is that I definitely do not like how FF6 ends with your party losing all the magical power you acquired like nothing ever happened, which makes the plot uncontinuable without super magic powers, unlike FF7 and advent children with Cloud still kicking just as much Sephy after Holy clensed the planet.

No I want to have a final boss. If not, then why even bother playing a game? The final boss is the ultimate goal. And it's espeically fun if the final boss is really someone your characters can hate through the game.

Like Kefka, he destroyed most of the world and became it's God. Who wouldn't want to kick his ass? And Sephiroth tried to destroy the planet by summoning a giant meteor. And then he blocked the only person's magic who could stop it.

And how would you end the game without a final boss?

IMO, you train in order to be able to reach the end of the game, not only in order to beat the final boss, or any monster for that matter.

Acutally you do. The final boss is always too strong for you during the begining and middle of the game. So you get your character stronger until they can take on the final boss. Why train if your characters could have sat at home all day? And in may games, the final boss does represent something of your main character, whether it be their biggest fears, or their flaws. It's only appropriate that they finish them off.

And the video games are about playing games. There is no fun in not being able to kill a final boss. If you don't want to bother fighting a final boss, go watch a movie, or play the Sims or Harvest Moon.
