Hypothetical question here.

Let's say a time machine has been invented. If you could go back in time, and could take one thing with you, what would it be? It could be an object, an idea, ANYTHING.

My next question would be what time period would you travel back to?

Good question. I originally thought the PS3, but what use would it be back in the past without any games or the technology to make any.

It would be some form of technology that would make me a small fortune but I cant decide what.

As an archaeologist I can honestly say that we have never had it so good! So I'll stay right here thank you. For a visit however, I would go back to Darius's tent during his invasion of Greece (C500bc). A pivotal time in history and probably great fun. I would take a bottle of Rum.

Going back in time? Well the one thing I would take with me would be the knowledge I have now. And go back to the time when I messed it up with the woman I loved. I didnt cheat or anything like that. I'm not like that. I just said some things that she didn't like.

I believe shes moved on but I havent and I would love to go back and change that.

I would take a set of encyclopedias and pretend to be a prophet. Except that would totally fuck with history, and possibly get me blacklisted from heaven.

I would take the concept of electricity. I would go back to the medieval ages. Just imagine what kind of technology we would have nowadays if electricity's power were harnessable 600 years before it was actually discovered! I would go back to this time because I think the people would be able to understand how to use it to make great things.

I remember in the mid-to-late nineties there was this awful TV movie (on ABC I think) where Whoopi Goldberg is a scientist who gets sucked back into the reign of King Arthur and teaches them how to use steam-power. That effed up history in the movie, but that might just be to make us feel better (i.e. "it couldn't have happened any other way, the present is as perfect as it could be under the circumstances").

Id go back 28 years ago and take my ex boyfriends mum some contraception........

XD

Frankly, if a time machine were invented, I would do everything in my power to destroy it. But, I would like to go back to the times and places in history where the facts are fuzzy and may have been changed. And, rather come back with something more than take something with me (cuz there's nothing I would really want to bring to the past).

On a more light-hearted note, if That 70's Show actually happened, then I would go there and take the whole Starwars movie collection (along with a TV and DVD player) just to see Eric's reaction.

I would take nothing put a piece of paper with two things written on it:

1) The winning lottery numbers for the day I turned 16 (or as close to it as possible)

and

2) My current views and understanding of women.

I would go back 21 years ago to the time I was born and place this note in a vault. I would write another note explaining exactly where the first one came from and what it was meant to represent (I wouldn't freak out by finding this by the way, I'd think it was the coolest thing ever).

I would then lay a series of clues in a way that I knew that I would be able to solve with some thought, and in such a way that I knew that I would not be able to resist trying to solve it. These clues would of course lead me not only to the vault, but to the way of opening it.

With this new information I could change my life to be exactly the way I want it to be. It's a selfish thing really, but it's honest.

As a quick side note, I don't believe that this sort of time travel is in any way feasible, but thankfully you took care of that in your "rules" for the thread. Perfect, by the way. The way you made your initial post. It gave an exact explanation and set of guidelines of what the following posts were to follow in order to obtain the outcome you desired, but also allowed us the freedom to return information in an honest way that still matched your original desires. If that doesn't make sense it's probably because it's very late and my brain isn't functioning at full capacity.

I'm gonna be such a Doctor Who Nerd with this:wacky:.

I'd take some random Girl of the street with me (so like the Doctor) and back in the TARDIS (lol) I'd take her and me back to probably Jesus' birth. Go site seeing, and witness the birth, and then out of no-where, a whole buch of Daleks come (^_^) and we'd fight them of using our logic, and afterwards, we go back to baby Jesus, talk to the Three Wise Men, then go back to the TARDIS.

lol

hmm, on a standpoint of greed, I'd take winning lottery numbers

but to better humanity,
1. I'd invent the wheel first
2. bring them typewriters during the mesopotamian times (either that or the printing press)
3. shoot hitler during the first world war (when he was a message runner
I'd also like to know how the mayans knew how to make that really accurate calendar

Hmm time machine.. that would be the best first date ever :P

And I am reminded of a rather funny episode of Blackadder.. ^_^

Anyhoo, if I had a time machine I would love to go back to medieval times to see what it was really like, and I would round up some musical people and start a minstrel band.. that would be pretty awesome xD And If i were to take an item back with me then it would be a trampoline, so that it would be a flying minstrel band =DDD

I would also like to go to the 60's, see what they were like.. and to the birth of christ aswell and take a camcorder back with me.
