I watched myself walkaway
From what we were and are
My footsteps are heavy
I can hear them fall
Because I took the step
Is this all my fault
The beauty that we had
Was no longer alive
The feelings we knew
My thoughts of you
Are no longer of love
But of suffocating regret
You took all I had left
And turned into yours
I came to you on my terms
But I left you on yours
There's a line in the sand
On opposite sides we stand
Did we draw it for a reason
I can't even remember when
I first noticed it there
When I first began to care
That you were slipping away
From me into the darkness
One day I hope that I'll find
A beauty that won't fade away
At the first sign of frost
A flame that won't go out
To keep my soul warm
When there's no light left
But now I know for a fact
That that's not what you are
You're just a distraction
Like a rainy day to a drought
A single moment of peace
Before you realize that you're
Right where you were before

Written without planning or editing, as if it was improb.
