Summon = Getting No Exp

I just got a Phoenix and i was fighting with it, but it isnt getting any experience.. and it can't wear equipment, so it does like no damage

The Phoenix is level 20. You are a level 18. You are probably fighting monsters that are not high enough to give Phoenix EXP. When you get to an area with higher level monsters, your summon will get EXP.
