Is anybody here a fan of the Suikoden (Genso Suikoden) games, the series of titles about the 108 Stars of Destiny by Konami? Suikoden I and II were for the PSone, and III, IV, Tactics (Rhapsodia) and V were released for the PS2.
I knew nothing about it until I bought Suikoden III a few years ago because, um... *ahem* the box looked cool. It's a great game, though. The story immediately dragged me in, and I didn't come up for air until about 110 hours later. The game focuses on three main characters and their roles in the war between Grassland and the Holy Harmonian Empire.
After I finished III, I bought IV and finished it not long after it came out (52 hours of play, I think). I got Tactics at the end of last year, but I haven't finished that yet. I only bought V a couple of months ago, but I think I should be done in about 15 hours; I'm at about 55 right now.
The thing that interests a lot of fans about the Suikoden series is how all of the games take place in different areas of the same world. For example, V is based in the Queendom of Falena and IV is based in the Island Nations, but during the course of V you can take a boat to the Island Nations region. There are also a few recurring characters, even though many of the games take place over a hundred years apart from each other!
A big part of each game is recruiting all 108 Stars of Destiny to your cause. Collecting 108 characters sounded intimidating at first, but it's good fun, at least to me.
So, anybody have a favorite game? Favorite nation? Favorite character? Just want to chat about a great series? In my opinion, III was the best, but I haven't played the first two. I really liked Chris Lightfellow and the Zexen Trade Federation.
