The thing I don't understand about a suicide person is the people that try and commit suicide for some reason, they don't die and then that's it. They stop trying. Why? Why don't they just keep trying? What has changed? Is their life any better now? No. In fact, it's worse, because now they've found out here's one more thing they stink at. That's why these people don't succeed at life to begin with. Because they give up too easy. I say pills don't worry, try a rope. Car won't start in the garage? Get a tune-up. Know what I mean?

There's nothing more rewarding than reaching a goal you've set for yourself.

Sometimes they remember something at the last minute after jumping or some other thing......... best way! is to try it yourself

Has anyone here ever tried to commit suicide? If not why are you talking about such manner without any personal experience in the subject. This personal intellect gained may be from your own experience or from that of a friend or family member.

Or even, god forbid, he has gathered information from the news, television and has assembled his own opinion! To think, he was asking other people what they thought.

Darkblade, I heartily agree.

And who said that was funny? I wasn't joking around or anything but I'm just curious, that's all. And no, none of us in here have ever commit suicide but I know some people who have already in reality. Whether you believe it or not, some of 'em were even my old buddies. Otherwise, why would I make this thread?

well, you are saying for suicidal people to keep trying to kill themselves if they fail.

Well, from personal and professional experience, suicide kind of scares me. I've been at that point where I had a plan but was too depressed to carry it out. I also routinely see people who who have attempted, thought strongly about, or threaten suicide.

Anyway, the worst thing about suicide is that if you don't follow through or if you're in some other way prevented from carrying it out, it continues to linger in the back of your mind as a reasonable action to undertake in a situation. The depression that instigated it in the first place kind of permanently taints your brain, just waiting until another opportunity to continue down that path. For that reason, when I assess a person's capacity for self harm, regardless of their current functioning, a history of suicidality pretty much guarantees future problems with that area. As they say, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

It's kind of funny that as far as suicide goes, you either get it or you don't. Some people in exactly the same or worse situation have never and never will contemplate it, whereas for relatively weak reasons many commit it.

Anyway, I strongly recommend going to a doctor or shrink. Had I not, I may not be here today. I had a close friend kill himself a few years ago. While in the midst of depression, suicide can seem completely reasonable. Once the depression is treated, you look back and wonder "what the hell was I thinking?" It's frightening to think but for want of certain neurotransmitters, so much can change. It's kind of humiliating, really, that you can lose so much control over yourself so easily. Probably that's the reason SSRIs temporarily increase the risk of suicide. Before they really kick in and you stop blaming yourself for everything you're in some limbo where you blame yourself for being so stupid as well as have the energy to act on a plan.

Anyway, professionally I really insist on going to see a doctor or having a friend or loved one see a doctor when things start to go this way. If not for my wife insisting, it would have been less likely that I would have. Furthermore, I have to intervene when someone is threatening suicide. So, for the sake of my conscience please, if you're considering it, go get some help. It may suck in the short term, but millions have this problem and are very, very relieved when they get it fixed.
