Shadow's dreams were about his past with his friend I think. They were robbing a train or something and his friend got injured... he wanted Shadow to kill him but he didn't.
There were other ones but I've forgotten.
Also, I have no idea why he stays on Kefka's Tower. At least Interceptor escapes ;P
This whole post has spoilers so anyone who wants to wait to play the game, don't read below...
Shadow's real name is Clyde. He and a friend named Baram were planning on Heisting a Train that was carrying a Million dollars when somehow they were attacked by enforcments and Baram was fatally injured.
As Baram and Clyde/Shadow were trying to escape, Baram realized that he would just be slowing Clyde down so he told Clyde to get away as fast as he could. However, Baram wanted Clyde to kill him off quick because he didn't want to fall into the hands of those who were pursuing them. (possible torture?)
Shadow cannot bare the thought of killing his own best friend so he runs off and Baram yells loudly that he is a coward for not helping him out. Clyde then lives with remorse and regret for a short while thinking that Baram would never forgive him for leaving him to fall into the hands of his enemies.
Clyde then travels to Thalsma (sp?) and meets up with a woman who he has a child with, named Relm, but leaves her after the wife's death and Relm goes into the care of her grandfather Strago. Clyde then takes on a new role in life as a hired mercenary/assassin and adopts the new name "Shadow" as his own. His dog Intercepter follows him everywhere, and when you meet Relm in the game, Intercepter takes a liking to Relm, and it's unusual because Intercepter usually barks and dislikes everyone except Shadow.
