I am assuming most of you have seen pictures of "Rapture" Square-Enix's next MMORPG.

That is more or less a promo pic they released a while back. That is what Jueno would look like with Square's new engine "Crystal Tools" which they are using for this.

It has been quite a while since square last spoke of the game, actually its been since 2005 since that picture was released. But more talk has surfaced now that E3 is nearing. Supposedly they will shed some more light on the game.

So what are your thoughts. Will you guys be jumping ship to the new game? Square has mentioned that they will not continue heavy production on the game until FFXIII is done and out. Even then it will take them 2-3 years to put Rapture out. Do you even think there will be many players left in FFXI by then? Either way, square plans to jump to their next baby when Rapture comes out. They will still pay attention to FFXI, but there will suppoidly be no new content by then. Hopefully they will hand over the keys to the ship to the fans by giving us the coding.

Not yet but thanks for bringing it up! :D

I will take a look of this later.. what consoles will it come on or PC only?

Ages ago I was about to get Final Fantasy XI on the 360 but nope I haven't, back then I didn't wanted to spend some of my money each month for it.

I hate admitting that I'm going to buy this... but I'm going to buy this. I'm not a fan of MMORPGs but it's SE and I need to give it a try. Maybe some of my close friends will actually have money at this point in their lives and be willing to drop a couple dimes on the monthly payments. Hopefully SE's second stab at the online scene will go much smoother than the first.

Co-existance

As Far as Co-existance in the sence of looking at cross over players from FFXI is anyones guess but this I can say. FFXI has a very steady base of about 500k over 95% of the games population (FFXI) is lv75 charicters as far as my server we may come and go in and out of FFXI for whatever reason but we usually all end up back I have been playing on and off for 4 years. In the sence that maybe SE would discontinue FFXI it would have to be a drastic loss of people because the creator of FFXI said himself that as long as there were people playing FFXI, that SE would continue to create content for it. And that question was asked in the context of FFXI competing with a newer SE MMORPG. But when it comes down to it gonna just have to wait and see, and maybe enjoy some speculation.

Do you have to play /own XI to play this, or is it like a stand alone game...? If I can get it on the PS3, I might give it a crack, although i will have long forgotten about it by the time it comes out by the looks of it <_<

as far as i know the only way to play on ps3 is to transfer your account from ps2

I believe this is suppose to be a completely stand alone title. It's not an expansion but players from one can interact with players from another, it seems. The graphical difference is going to be obvious since this game probably won't be released until 2010 at the earliest... and Final Fantasy XI was released in 2002.

I guess it's all about replacing Final Fantasy XI, which was obviously flawed in some aspects, with a game that is superior in all aspects.

I completely misunderstood the above quoted question /fail. Rapture will be a standalone title completly independant from FFXI. It will incorperate ideas used in FFXI both good and bad from a player standpoint. As far as the Platform that will be used the Creator didn't specify unless he has recently (for my information has probly been dated since) But FFXI spans PS2, PS3, PC, and xbox 360. So I would assume that they will use whatever platforms are on the market counsol wise + pc
