Name some of the coolest things in the world. Samurai's, ninjas, pirates, vikings, blowjobs; and yet none of these things have ever had a decent game dedicated to them. The best we've had are Ninja-Gaiden (which is still going on
) and Sid Meier's Pirates (which was a halfstep off queer).
You know what we need? A good console MMORPG set in feudal japan that incorporates samurai's, ninjas, and pirates. All three existed in the same general location during that time period. Granted pirates weren't exactly how we think of them today... but there were still thieves on boats which could kind of be seen as pirates. In any case, if some foreigners were going to make it to feudal Japan... they'd be on boats and mostlikely pirates. Also, blowjobs. Don't question it. It makes perfect sense.
You would start out as a young boy or girl upon a boat headed for feudal Tokyo. A great storm rises from the mist of the sea and claims the boat and the lives of your family. You wash ashore, half-alive, and all alone. Depending on random non-specific questions you answered at the beginning of the game, you wash up to shore in a small fishing village. The village offers a plethora of beginning quests but nothing substantial. After a level or two, you will need to make your way into the real world filled with monsters as vast as the explorable ancient world itself.
You never commit to a job, although you can eventually purchase titles for yourself. You never actually level. Instead through quests and battles you gain personal points and job points which can be spent at any time. Personal points are used to increase your personal abilities. HP, agility, speed, defense, strength... etc. Job points are used to increase your ability to use certain weaponry or specific types of magics. In the end it is these decisions that eventually hone you into a "class". Weapons and magic can be purchased, as well as acquired through exploration and questing. Strength determines how much you can carry.
The system as a whole would pretty much would simply change "warriors" to "samurais" and "mages" to "ninjas"... with "pirate" being a "thief" class. Somewhere throughout the game the player will be given the option to try and qualify for a training school, which will lead the player on a long line of quests that can be completed at his leisure. Eventually with training at one of these facilities, a whole new variety of job-specific job point "purchases" will open up. Special techniques will be able to be acquired using the job point system as well as a few special personality point related fields such as stealth, magic defense, and the ability to ride mounts.
I'm clearly rambling and I doubt anyone read this... and it's not even a very good idea for a game. But I would like to see some game that focuses on ninjas and their ninjitsu, samurai's and their ancient war techniques, and pirates and their pilaging, plundering, and bj-acquiring greatness.
