The best part about FF5 is that any characteristics of jobs can be used by the Freelancer class when a job has been mastered, for example if you master Knight then the character who mastered it will automatically use cover as a Freelancer even without the ability being set, and if you master Ninja then the Freelancer can use 2 weapons without the ability. Getting to my question, if you master the Berserker class, will Freelancers automatically be in berserk mode during battle, or is that the one job characteristic that isn't carried over to them?

No, or at least Bartz didn't berserk automatically in battle.
I think it just gives you the ability to equip axes, and maybe raise your attack power.
