Question about online play on PS3.

I was lucky enough that my friend was in Japan for the last 2 weeks, and is back now and currently in London for 2 days before he gets back down here. The reason I was lucky, is that he got me a 60GB PS3 while he was there, for alot cheaper than you can here in the UK when they open in 2 weeks.

But my problem is, will the online play on games work here in the UK? Like will it just connect to a UK server instead when i sign up? I just would like to know the ins and outs if anyone knows?

And also, what games so far have had some sort of online play?
 
Oh thats good? So you do think that the japanese console will work for the online play here in the UK?
 
Okay, I'm not 100% sure about this but I think I have heard that you can only connect to the japanese server with a japanese PS3.
 
But it will connect and you can play the game sonline still? It's not a problem if it connects to the Japanese server as I can speak Japanese so that's fine.
 
I have heard from other people in Europe that have imported the PS3 from Japan and they said they could play online so I think so.

Well, Resistance: Fall of Man has online play. Motorstorm has also online play but I'm not sure if it works on the japanese version yet, but I have heard that they are going to release a patch that enables online play on the japanese version too.
 
there has to be a way to connect to UK servers, but it should do that automaticly, or on command

note also that if you connect on a japanese server you will experience huge amounts of lag... since Japan lies on the other side of the world, the time it takes for the servers to "speak" takes a while, regardless of the speed of your connection

but that shouldn't be an issue as you *should* be able to play on closer servers... if you can't, it's rather poorly designed
 
I read a few minutes ago that games bought in Japan have online play on japanese servers and games bought in UK have online play on european servers even if the machine is bought in Japan. I'm not 100% sure about this either but I think that this is true.
