Hey everyone Greaver here. Just wanting to know is this game worth a play? I wasnt into the Old final fantasys too much but i hear this one shouldnt be missed. Whats the pros and cons?
cheers
Alright, you're looking at a great game here! This has gotta be the best FF ever. So, here's my rundown:
Pros
- Awesome, awesome, awesome story. Best characters, best villains, best writing, best script. Some very emotional scenes rivaling most other games (but not to the point of being cheesy).
- Dark overtones and serious scenarios throughout, but all the while managing to keep a sense of humor and not take itself *too* seriously.
- Way too atmospheric for a 16-bit game. Has a very neat Victorian-esque steampunk vibe, and later on, a persistent sense of impending doom hanging over the world.
- Beautiful graphics, best of the SNES-era, only rivaled by Chrono Trigger.
- Best villain in the series. I'd say Kefka deserves his own line.
- Good balance between character customization, and the challenge of having to work with the strengths and weaknesses of the characters you're given.
- A lot of freedom, especially later on. Tons of sidequests.
- A pretty good musical soundtrack.
- Lots of challenge, but not too difficult.
- Large character cast with interesting back-story.
Okay, I'm running out here, so...
Cons (this is hard)
- Sometimes the ATB may get on your nerves, from time to time.
- Some complain that the second half gives you little to no sense of direction, making you instead explore aimlessly as you wrap up the loose story threads, gain more characters, and hunt for more espers and sidequests.
- Enemies in battle have very little animation, as nicely-drawn as they are.
Well, get it, by all means! You're missing out! Just remember: gotta wait for shadow.
