Okay, so I have a photobucket account and I want to use it to post fanclub images and what not but I don't want to risk losing all of my images because I reached my bandwidth limit. (that would be terrible :gonk:) Anyways, Photobucket says I have a limit of 10GB per month... but... I'm not really sure what that means? :hmmm: I mean, I get what GB is and stuff :wacky:

But how many clicks/views of seeing one of my images will it take to consume that 10GB limit per month? Also, every month will that 10Gb limit start over at 0 if I reach anywhere near the limit? I'm mainly worried about the 10GB limit never resetting... so, yeah. :wacky:

I'm sorry these are probably stupid questions but I'm seriously confused. And yes! I am an idiot about these sorts of things. :hmph:

Thank you for any and all help. ^_^

(also, wasn't quite sure where to put this :lew:)

1 GB is roughy 1,024 megabytes or 2^10.

10 GB = 10,240 MB.

If you have a 1 megabyte(1,024 bytes) animated GIF, it can be viewed roughly 10,000 times before your limit maxes out.

-100 kilobyte(kb) image can be viewed roughly 100,000 times.

-20 100 kb images can each be viewed roughly 5,000 times.

The most image views a person will receive is normally from hosting a message board sig on photobucket. On an active forum a thread might receive 50-100 views in 5 minutes or less. Usually the largest strain on pplz photobucket account.

Its usually better to use tinypic or imageshack for sigs, etc.

Photobucket is also known for mailing false messages indicating bandwidth is low.

I used to receive multiple emails every year saying my bandwidth was almost out.

Ignored all of them lol. Nothing happened.

I have seen pplz accounts max out though...

Thank you.

So... from what you just said, my dinky Photobucket account for my Clourith images won't run through it's bandwidth? just by a few links?... I don't think I could have any of my images viewed more than 5000 times...like... ever :lew:

Okay, thank you. :cali:

Yes, it shouldn't.

If your images are ranked high on google or another image search engine & receive a lot of views, maybe you'll run out. If you have an account with a lot of images 500 - 10,000, its possible you'll run out also.

But, otherwise, it should be good.

10 GB is more bandwidth than some people have for their entire websites.

Maybe try use DeviantArt for those images, Cali? I don't know anything about DA running out, sure you can't set them to private, but... :hmmm:

Oh, they're not my images, Kira. :lew: They're images I'm putting into a collection (with due credit). I'd need to make a whole new dA I think. :hmmm:

Richard B Riddick, I will probably have a thousand images in total. But I doubt people will click and view every image because my album is completely private and people can only access the images if I provide a link(from what I understand, that is).

I would suggest making a new DA with just a 'OTP images', so that they're not by you, etc, rather than risk the fact people might obsess over the images, and ruin your PB. :lew:

I'm not high on DA myself, I use Photobucket, due to Tinypic deleting my pics, and no, they were not sexual things. :hmph:

10 GB is more than a lot of free website hosts provide.

Srry for late reply, btw. Had to reset modem...

Yeah, might do that. thanks for the recommendation, kira :ryan: And I also have tinypic deleting my stuff to even when it's not sexual... :hmmm:

I have a private photobucket account.

To give you an example of how things can snowball...

This is one image on my account:

0004253e.gif

A google search for the image: img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/assembly80x86/0004253e.gif reveals russians thought it was cool & linked to it more than once.

There were others who linked to it and my other images.

They're not listed anymore considering it was awhile ago. :ohshit:

So yeh. Snowballs........

Oh, also!

Even though its a private account, if someone wanted to see what images I had they could do a search via account name, like:

google search: img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/assembly80x86

Looking at results, you can see I posted some of those, but many others copied my links and posted in other places, too.

So, eh, whatever I guess...

Hmmm, I see.

So photobucket is pretty useless. :hmmm: I'd use tinypic but it's too difficult to load on there. And I'd use dA but these arts are from other artists in Japan... I'd feel like I was taking credit or something

Its useless if you have a lot of images & post links on forums or public places others can view them and re-link.

It'll be like tumblr where one person sees something they like & re-links to it & it snowballs.

If you post links in closed areas like the graphic clan area, or a private blog posts not accessible to just anyone, it might work, though. :T

I've been using imageshack. I keep an index of image links in a .txt file with a description.

I haven't had trouble with them deleting my images, yet. But then again, I haven't been linking to images for months, now......

/cure for insomnia, boring technical post

Besides Imageshack or tinypic do you know of any other place that I can create albums in and relink without risking going over bandwidth? :hmmm:
