At some point in time, everyone questions the 'void' which nothing else can fill. What is this alleged world we live in?
This is what spins the web of emotion and intrigue that comes with religion. Since the beginning, people have sought a greater entity, a god.. but the idea of such an entity ruling the universe and the idea of such an entity having rules and requirements are two different things.
One or both are compromised by human inquiry. If a god, or gods, exist, what shows that they have rules? A testament is hardly enough to sway the minds of many, but it happens. This is because it is human to inquire a greater being, or cause.
Gods are always portrayed as having a counterpart in the presence of man. Whether they serve to protect, guide, or punish, they are surely here for us. Some are even portrayed as keepers, such as Hades, who maintain different realms.
Looking at the diversity of religion, you see how the human mind yearns to escape the clutches of scrutiny. It is something that science will never fix, even when every corner of the universe and the one next to it is uncovered. But it's an answer that cannot be found by looking, and that's the only ability we are capable of.
Either way, proof has been beset on both sides of the question. Unfortunately, neither side will ever be capable of ultimately proving the other wrong. The fact that man denies this says that we are living in a fantasy.
Looking at it this way, it could be safe to say that the only reality is fantasy. It is surely the only thing that has been there since the start of man. Since science has no god, the only 'snap' into reality is if a divine god were to appear.
