Ive always disagreed with what most have said about FFXI not being a real FF and all, because quite honestly, it has the longest, most enwrapping story that ranks about 3rd among all 12 in my opinion. But most would never know that because being that its online, they passed on it one way or another. Granite, it took 7 years of in game developement to take the story where it is today ( 4 expansions, 3 mini expansions ) but this story is LONG and very enjoyable. You must trust me when I say very few FFs have nothing on the depth of the world, its surroundings and main plot compared to XI. Its impossible, the game is just gigantic in terms of story content.

Once FFXIV comes FFXI will die a few years later, because lets face it, squares target audience is FFXI players! To me that is wrong for one reason and one reason only.....FFXI is a chronicled FF, you cant just delete it like it never happened. Especially an epic chapter of a beloved series.

So do you all think Square should re-work the mechanics of the game to be a console RPG and have it available via download on our newest gen consoles for all of you that missed out? ( Of course only if they plan on deleting it because they are losing money ) Would you play it or will you still think its not part of the final fantasy series even STILL?

I try not to think of it as a way to draw people away from FFXI, but I also was under the impression that the FFXIV world would also include the FFXI players of old. So, yeah, it's a new story, but some FF's have intertwining stories. Why shoot the goose before it lays the egg? :P

indeed, there's no reason for Square to stop making FFXI expansion packs (or even make a new build of the game with all the expansions included) or move the user base over to FFXIV

I respect you opinions that you think its not going anywhere, but the reality is, they only have 1 year planned of development and their only answer of keeping it around with FFXIV is, "As long as people are still around we will keep supporting it." I give it til 012 before the plug is pulled, but thats just me.

I really started this topic to see if console FF'ers have an interest of experiencing FFXI in an offline version. Or if its considered blacklisted in most peoples minds.

Moving this thread to the FFXI section as I feel it really should be there when discussing online FF games.

Yes, if they could make an offline version of FFXI then I would definitely be interested. But how difficult would that be? Does XI lend itself easily to being an offline game or does it depend on there being other players?

It's a good question. In the question and answer session that they had, they seemed to think that FFXI and FFXIV would co-exist, implying that the XI fan-base would play both games. That might happen for a little while, but I seriously doubt that most people would have the time and money to play both games at the same time, and if given the choice, both new and old gamers are surely more likely to pick FFXIV. As such, unless they somehow have the resources to keep XI open indefinitely, it would certainly make sense for them to release it as an offline game.

The thing is, the online play MAKES FFXI, well, FFXI. The Auction House, the whole gameplay is kind of soley based around the fact that it can be done online. It's kind of like trying your hand at WoW all by yourself. I mean yeah, you can do it, but you don't get party members, you NEED people to progress throughout more difficult parts of the game. I guess the future of Final Fantasy will eventually lay within the Online world as will most games. It's the direction everyone will turn too.

no.it is truly fine the way it is.it is actually the only game of its kind i can actually look at.As long as it is still up and strong,i dont see why they should change anything about it.MAYBE they could at least make a port for those who want to play it by themselves

Well, like most online games, once it's been out for so long, the content you can do is limited. FFXI was a great MMOG, but FFXIV might just be the icing on the cake in this scenario and truly take the Online gaming possibilites of the Final Fantasy franchise to the next level. Try not to look at this is a door closing, but another door opening :D

Well I believe that they will eventually remove FFXI... unfortunately. But I believe they should give players the option of using consoles as personal servers. In my opinion it would work. The only change to be made would be to finally make XI free play. The second that happens you'll see a roar in new subscriptions. And to finish it when the players get bored of FFXI and the game has been drained of money making capacity caused by slowed releases to XI they will flock to the next game.
