Well I went with my bf to pick up the special edition (with helmet) of Halo 3 yesterday. We bought extra controllers, alcohol, and brought a lot of Olive Garden food to go to a friend's house for our very first HALO 3 PARTY.

As soon as we arrived, we hooked up the Xbox...got everyone situated...and as soon as we pressed the power button...

The Red Rings of Death appeared!
The power button was just flashing red over and over. =o

As we all know...supposedly...once this happens, you're virtually screwed. It's a glitch, right? NO! The Red Rings of Death were just staring us all in the eyes...but then a miracle occurred...
One of my friends turned the console over onto it's side, and right when he went to turn it off...the Red Rings of Death went away, and the system started working again...

This has been...my experience with Halo 3 and the red rings of death.
Anyone experience anything similar?
What if people are returning their consoles with the red rings of death and the cure is to just lean the console over onto it's side...?

You are one lucky individual; and not just because of the Olive Garden you had with you. Wow, I'm glad that you were able to play it anyway by turning it on its side.

It would have been a tragedy to see a good night like that go to waste. Especially after spending so much!

Your XBox survived after the red rings of death? I'm actually on my second one because of the red rings!

Anyways, how was the Olive Garden, and Halo 3? Ashleigh is bringing it over next weekend for us to play, and I hope that is is 20 times more awsome than Halo 2

Yeah right. Like I actually got a chance to play. :monster:
It looked quoite fun. ^.^ Especially riding on the 4 wheeler. ^.^

I know, I always have my system standing upright.
Maybe I discovered the cure. XD

And I got the Olive Garden half price because my friend works there.
Free drinks, free wine, free dessert, free salads, and free soup. ^.^

Yeah, I think having your 360 standing up causes the red ring of death, my 360 has survived 2 red rings of death and still works, I guess I'm really lucky huh?

Yes! One of my friends told me that I should lay a warm wash cloth on it or something. Maybe that's a dumb fart idea...

My other friend told me that he keeps his laying on it's side, and he's never had that problem. ^.^

I've been able to play Halo 3 and finish it while playing the 360 standing up and never had any problems. Hell, I've had my 360 standing up ever since I got it and haven't had the rings of death yet. Could be that I don't play it as much as other people though.

I always assumed it has to stand up...lol :D

It looks just more natural standing up..like Wii...I cannot imagine either being positined sideways...

Oh I am sure it doesn't really matter which way you have it stand....just to me for some unexplained reason looks more natural standing up... :D...though in another pm I said I can see dust coming down on it,....so I actually might consider placing it sideways under the telly if I do not find some suitable cover for it while it is turned off....

Even under the tv you'll still get dust on it as dust moves in every direction, but you'll just have less dust on it. I occassionsly wipe te top of dust but not much as it doesn't seem to do anything. I would have it sideways but it just looks odd like that because of the curves it has, it'd look weird sideways. At least the PS2 was straight so it look more natural sideways.
