A few days ago I found something that made me happy and impressed at the same time.

If you like gaming news, you already know who Keiji Inafune is and when he left Capcom (to whom he worked for almost 20 years), to make his own company, Comcept.

The alleged reasons to do so was that he felt the business model shared by all companies in Japan was counterproductive. He felt the business side was insecure about new things and this was influencing the creative side too much for bad, bringing no innovation. He feels that what he calls the "Western" model credit individuals much more than the "Eastern" model, thus creating a more competitive environment where developers strive to be original, to stand out and have the merit, unlike Japan, where he says that if you succeed, you don't take the credit, but if you fail, it's your fault. A translated interview with full details can be found here.

After Inafune's departure from Capcom in 2010, it seems like the company was determined to cancel several Mega Man games (Mega Man Universe, Mega Man Legends 3, Rockman Online, Maverick Hunter), which would be proven to be a terrible mistake.

In September, Inafune started a fundraising at Kickstarter to help Comcept to release their new game, Mighty No. 9, in multiple platforms, namely PS4, Xbox One, PS Vita and 3DS. Mega Man fans were able to donate almost 4 million dollars in a game yet to come.

Now, what made me happy: a stubborn, disrespectful and deceitful company is getting owned by a team of about 20 people because this same company's pride couldn't deliver what the fans wanted, Mega Man. It also helped Inafune to prove what he wanted to show: that games can be produced more on an external development model, making it easier to spend less capital on human and technological resources and also giving more creative freedom.

What made me impressed: even though Inafune's reputation was built through Capcom, it doesn't mean he was able to raise an astonishing number of almost 4 million dollars because he was from Capcom. He managed to separate his name from Capcom. Just because he asked, pople helped him, had trusted in him.

Here's the video showing the first test for Mighty No. 9:
