SEF has one and it helps them stay up to date on the news from SE.
So could we have one?
 
In case you haven't noticed, we're NOT SEF. And, the news section works just fine as it is.

We're discussing opening it up to everyone though.
 
I know that but I was just posting a suggestion.
Also I posted a Topic that is really news already.
 
Hopefully, we'll soon have it open to the members, anyway. It was only stopped because spambots loved that forum, because of its affiliation with the "Latest News:" mod. However, with that disfunctional, there's little reason to say "no".

Bare with us for a bit.
 
I can understand a reason to not allow members to post news directly, so I am of the opinion that it would work best to just have a area where members post news and the staff accept it as an official bit of news.

That just doesn't make sense :wacky: It seems utterly pointless.

Not to mention it's not just staff who need to "accept" a piece of news...
 
What I meant was that we, the members, post the news in a topic, then the staff members checks the news posted there and makes sure everything is correct. If it is then they post/move it to the news section.
 
I'd still say that's of little use. There's no reason for such an intermediary step; granting members the ability to post in the SE News forum once again is far more beneficial, no?
 
True it would allow that but you would still have to check the basis of the news due to people making stuff up.
 
It's easy to tell if news is fake or not. If they can't cite a source, they've obviously made it up ;D

It's not difficult xD
 
We're hoping to get the SE News Section open to normal members soon, so problem solved. You will be directly able to post news in that section rather than it being moved to it.

There's really not much else we can do, as Mark stated, we're not SEF...and I don't fancy having half their staff moaning at us for plagiarism. :monster:
 
I have no idea who SEF is, nor do I care. I think it is fantastic that gaming/SE news is becoming a larger part of these boards. I think it will help fuel game discussions if members can converse with the same amount of source material available. If this staff finds a way to effectively open it to all members, that is fantastic. I only have a few thoughts on the matter (only my opinions):
  1. News articles should all be original materials written by a person of these boards. No copy/paste jobs.
  2. All news articles should cite at least 2 sources OR it is to be clarified by the word "RUMOR" in the title.
  3. A minimum grammar and spelling competency must be met. No one is going to read it if the structure is poor and if all the words are misspelled.
  4. It should be no post count. I do not want to see new members churning out half baked articles on old material just to bolster their postcount.
 
Members can now post freely in the news section. Enjoy, guys ;D And, since that's done, this thread's no longer needed.
