I love RPG gameplay, but I've avoided many RPGs because I have like no cognitive mapping abilities whatsoever, and I'm also terrible at puzzle.
I've been playing FF1 on iphone lately, and I really enjoy the gameplay, but I'm constantly getting lost and not knowing where I'm going or what I'm doing. To remedy this, I usually follow a guide on gamefaq as well as look at some gif files of various maps and dungeons and stuff. This is a relatively effective method in the technical sense, but I'd much prefer to simply lay in bed and play, or to just be able to play the game without having to worry about getting lost.
I know there is a minimap, but it seems to only be for the overworld, it's not all that detailed, and it doesn't actually tell me where I need to go.
I get the feeling that this is the sort of thing you are either good at or you aren't, like math or driving without a gps, but does anyone have any advice for how to get good at this / compensate for this / some trick to making this easy I'm not aware of?
PS: This question applies not just to FF1, but to RPGs in general, or for that matter, videogames as a whole.
