Just finished the waterfall puzzle in Sochen Cave Palace.

I couldn't remember how to do it and couldn't be bothered aimlessly running around for an hour or two, so I decided to use a guide.

Every guide I came accross said the same thing: You either get a Koga or Iga Blade from the chest. Says in the stratergy guide. Then each guide then went onto say they've always got the Iga Blade and not heard of anyone getting the Koga blade.

Well, I just got the Koga Blade.

Anyone else ever got it? Or is it indeed as rare as these guides say it is?

Is the chest just random aswell, as I've heard of people just getting a Knot of Rust, or does something else contribute to what you get (in the same sorta sense as the Zodiac Spear, but obviously not the same)
 
See I would've thought the Iga Blade would be the rare one, considering you get another Koga Blade from the Cockatrice sidequest.
 
I've never had the Iga Blade and I've played through it three or four times. :wacky:

As for getting a random item, like a Knot of Rust, I didn't think that was possible, given that you have to unlock that door with specific maneuvers.
 
It's odd isn't it?

I mean the Iga Blade is much harder to get (rare drop from Bogey in the Zertian Caverns or one time chest in the waterway)

The Koga Blade, all you need is feather of the flock and to speak to a cockatrice lol.
 
Waterfall puzzle? Can you help me? I've never seen a switch or anything.
 
There's not switches as such, but you have to go through entrances in a specific way.

You need to be equiped with a Diamond Armlet to get a Knot of rust. In that case it will be 100%. So before opening the chest, check your equipment.
As far as I know, its a 50-50 chance of one or the other.
 
Yeah its pretty much like concentric circles or something, although im not 100% on that. and you end up in the middle. or is that for one of the marks?? hmmm
 
Yes, you start in the upper right side and then make your way down and go round clockwise. You end up in the room where the chest is.
 
The chest has a 100% chance of spawning. Without the Diamond Armlet equipped, its a 50/50 chance of getting either the Iga Blade or Koga Blade. With a Diamond Armlet equipped, you have a 100% chance of obtaining Knot of Rust.

Make sure you start this from the side where you enter the Cave from Tchita Uplands.

Right, first of all make your way to "Mirror of Soul" part of the map, from entry, go right, you'll know you're going the right way when you see the Urn where you got the map, follow that path and enter the "Falls of Time"

Now, to make this easier to explain, press select and zoom into your map. You'll see 5 exits from that area to the North, and 5 exits to the south (where you just entered from)

I'll call the exits by numbers, so the 5 at the North end will be exits 1 - 5, and the 5 exits South will be 6 - 10.

So it'll be like this:

1------2-----3-----4------5

<Falls of Time area>


6----7------8-----9------10

You just entered from exit 10.

Now, go back out through exit 10 into the Mirror of the Soul area make your way to exit 6, and re-enter Falls of Time (you'll know you're going the right way when you get a message saying the Waterfalls have changed)

Now, from exit six make your way to exit 1, go through exit 1 to enter Destiny's march.

Move through Destiny's March and re-enter Falls of Time through using exit 4.

From exit 4, make your way to exit 9 to reenter Mirror of the Soul.

Travel through Mirror of the Soul and re-enter Falls of Time through exit 7.

Then go to exit 2 and enter Destiny's March.

Go through Destiny's march to exit 3, and re-enter Falls of Time.

Now, if you've done it right, a message will come on screen saying something along the lines of "you hear a door unlock" can't remember it word for word.

Anyways, go to Exit 8, open the door and you'll see a chest in the middle of the room, this is where you get either the Koga or Iga Blade.


It may seem from reading this it takes a while, but it doesn't really, the areas aren't that big.
 
Okay so i am on my second play threw of ffxii, now what i have a question about is this. I am at the part where you go to speak with the garif. I'm in osmone plains and i am going threw my weapons to see which i need to get yet. I already have an Iga Blade, now i am not sure but i think i bought it in rab before i came cause i bought what i had 0's next to. someone try to confirm this going back to rab. before garif land and seeing if you can buy this bad boy. has high att for the stage of the game im at this go around. only thing that is beating it at this point is the bow i got for killing the white mous or w/e for the moogle. thanks etc.
 
You can't buy the Iga or Koga Blade.

There are two ways to obtain the Iga Blade: The chest in The Sochen Cave Palace, or a very rare Steal/Drop from Bogey in Zertinan Caverns. You acquired yours from the latter option.

There are three ways to obtain the Koga Blade: The chest in The Sochen Cave Palace, a very rare Drop from Ash Wyrm in Mosphorean Highwaste and the Cockatrice sidequest.
