I don't know if there is a thread like this already and if there is then I apologize but I mostly just want to vent.

So, what idiot decided that it'd be easier to fill out an application for a store online? I tried to fill out six applications yesterday I was only able to fill out one because some of these websites don't have their shit together and the website was too confusing (maybe I'm just a moron). Then, some of the other sites just didn't work. I'd follow the directions on the site and then nothing would happen. Seriously, how is this convenient and simple? I'm sure it is for the store because they don't have to file these applications away. Applying online is what discourages me more than anything when it comes to finding a job. I want to work but then I go to a store that tells me that they apply online and I just wanna explode. And I'm sure that someone's gonna give me that "the websites hard to figure out because they don't want stupid people working for them" crap which, to a degree, I can understand. But to call this "convenient" is just a bunch of garbage. When I tried to apply at Blockbuster not to long ago, one of the employees told me to fill out an application and then call the store because he said that they don't even really check all of the applications. I don't know if it is but I'm pretty sure that this is true for most stores. I know that they get alot of applicants in a day but that just sounds really dumb. I think it would just be easier to get the damn piece of paper from the store and fill it out. That's just me. I think this is more evidence that sometimes we rely far too heavily on the internet. Then again, I'm just REALLY pissed off right now.

Sorry about your bad experience yesterday, but I do agree that online applications are very irritating, and the majority of the places I like to apply all have their applications online - and for me, this goes for jobs and college apps. One of the stores I applied to once just told me I had to apply online, but their application isn't on their main site (Food Lion), rather we have to look up the application on a main job searching website and apply there, and I'm not even sure if the store got mine or not. I never got to ask my friend how he applied since he works there, but the answer will probably be something I don't want to hear.

Also, I noticed how a LOT of the applications online look very much alike, except for extras like mandatory work experience or age requirement (which some of them don't state), and I noticed a few of those types of apps don't fit the job they're being hosted from. Online apps for colleges just confuse me, and one I did didn't have a save option if I didn't finish because I was doing it during school, so I had to do it all over again once I got home. I like doing things the way they used to back then, just write everything on paper. Today it's a lot easier to do rather than count on technology.

I hear you, I've had some terrible experiences applying for jobs online. One in particular was M&S, which made you fill out several giant forms, then a strange 'quality control' thing which was full of stupid multiple choice answers with NO incorrect answer for most of them, and even though it was very hard to be technically 'wrong', it screened you for quality, and only allows you to apply for jobs a computer deems you worthy to do.

Of course, the only job I was locked out of was the only one I originally applied for, as I couldn't manage the hours for the rest.

I completely agree reverting to handing a CV/application in to the store would be SO much easier.
