I know that there has been at least one thread about this game in the past, but it was almost a year ago now, so I thought it would be okay to open up a new conversation.
Am I the only person around who's played the game? I understand that it's never been released outside of Japan (and I quite understand why, really... I don't think it would do so well) but I thought perhaps some fanatics might have got hold of it and tried it out.
Personally, I find it infuriatingly addictive. I quite like board games as it is, but the one issue I have with the game is it's UNHOLY CHEATING. It really feels like the AI is biased against you by a rather sickening degree.
For example: there is always an AI opponent who always lands on their own shops (and upgrades them every go, ending up charging you like 400 or 500 gil every time you land on one of their squares), always lands on open squares so they own half the board, never lands on anyone else's squares, never gets unlucky cards, and always rolls high numbers on the dice.
Me? If I ever need to get somewhere really bad, I will roll a 1 every single go for ten goes. I'll get a chance card that obliterates any lead I had. I'll land on other people's shops every turn and only own maybe two squares on the board by some kind of fluke streak of bad luck.
It's infuriating but also somehow addictive, and seriously cute.
I guess if no-one else has played it, I could answer questions about it, though! I have it open in front of me right now -- for better or for worse...
Honestly, I would have liked to have seen more characters from other FF games and less Dragon Quest characters, but there you have it.
DQ is so popular here.
