Help Is There Something You Have To Do To Unlock The Card Phantoms In Memoria?

I recently erased my FF IX file x_x and on my re playthrough Im walking through Memoria attempting to challenge the five spectres of Tetra and the field icon (?) pops up, but when I press X, Zidane just looks around like a jackass. Did I forget about some mechanism that allows you to duel the Phantom Masters?

Press the Square button rather than X when a ! bubble pops up, then you should be able to challenge them to a card game.
