is it just me or does this game seem like a copy of WoW?

i havent acctually played it yet but by the screenshots ive seen i think it is.

what are your thoughts?

sounds like it. A MMORPG with practically the same enemies. except FF enemies are stolen by WoW more likely if they are the same.

Just to clear some things up for you, Final Fantasy XI was made before World of Warcraft. And to go even further, the Final Fantasy series was created long before Warcraft. If there was any stealing at all between Square Enix and Blizzard, Blizzard would be the thieves.

There are only so many types of monsters you can create before it gets to the point where you're out. It's also nice to have enemies in all games you play that you're familiar with. It's what helps players stay interested. If they know absolutely nothing about an MMORPG, it may lead to their not wanting to play anymore.

Yea FFXI, has nottin to do with WoW.. since WoW looks more like a Saturday morning Cartoon then a actual MMORPG.. when FFXI looks way more realistic in its simplicity :P

so plz never ever compare FFXI to WoW.. cause it really dosen't seem the same

As you should know, if I'm not istaken FFXI was made before wow and yes they pretty much alike only FFXI offers so much more.

haveing played both I have to say that WoW is for the more casual gamer, in the fact that you dont need to look for a group to go and level up, FFXI has far to much eliteism going on to be as friendly as WoW on the whole I think WoW is the much better game for many many reasons, such as the friendly UI the fact that you dont have to make a million macro's (ok maybe a slight exageration but you know what I mean) to be efficent in battle, and the enermy's are much more interesting I mean lets say for instance the Start of FFXI you start by fighting rabbits and worms whereas in WoW you start on wolfs.

Secondly the PvP in FFXI takes far to long unlike the PvP in WoW where you only need to type /duel to do some PvP, and also its much friendlier to people that die (in FFXI I deleveled to 23 soo many times its ridiculas) it would have been a much wiser move to take the exp away but not delevel you, In wow all that happens is that your armor's duability goes down nice and simple.

Thirdly many people are far to stuckup in FFXI say for instance I was in Windy once and it was my first time there I shouted 'where is the sandy consul?' and the only reply I got was 'I know where it is' towhich I replyed 'where then?' he said 'go look for it' I mean wtf is that all about?.

Forthly when you finally get a subjob option your always expected to do what they want, I had a friend who wanted to be a DRK/PLD and he did a damn fine job aswell, and we was in Valkurm looking for a party (I was WHM/BLM) and I get this arrogant child who had 2 people with him in his group asked me if I wanted to join him (well he actully just blind invited me when I declined he decided to speak) and I said id join him if he has space for my mate he said what class is he so I told him and immdiatly he started judgeing him saying he is a noob and that he should either be DRK/BLM/THF or a PLD/WHM/WAR.... lets just say I didnt join his party.

now iv had my rant I'll let you get back to your lives :D

Most of what you stated is merely opinion. In all of my experiences on World of Warcraft, people were assholes. Everyone seemed to think they were godly because they had ten level sixty characters. Big deal. You can get a character to level sixty in two weeks. However, it is in my experience that people act this way. Therefor, you can't use this is a comparison; it's all relative.

The macro system in Final Fantasy XI is far superior to that of World of Warcraft. With World of Warcraft, the only option you have for macros is to have the single command. You hit the key and you cast a spell. That's all; there is nothing more to it. With Final Fantasy XI, you can program in 200 different macros with as many as six commands within each one. Instead of having six different keys to use for casting an ability, Final Fantasy XI is designed so that you can have them all in one single key. This macro system allows you to time abilities, give warnings to you and your party, and so much more. Frankly, I believe their user interface entirely out-weighs World of Warcraft's.

Final Fantasy XI doesn't have a real player versus players option. It is merely a game where you're able to kill other players. World of Warcraft obviously beats Final Fantasy XI here. It would be interesting to see something similar to World of Warcraft in Final Fantasy XI though. I'd sure have a fun time.

Lastly, I will agree that the range of monsters is lacking. The idea of fighting worms, bees, beetles, and such is that it's suppose to look and feel simple when you're beginning. I'm not entirely sure how many different models there are for non-playable characters in World of Warcraft, but I know that Final Fantasy XI doesn't have as many as there should be. There are five wyrms in the game that all use the same model, but they differ by color.

I hate seeing people criticize Final Fantasy XI without completely taking all areas into consideration. I've been playing Final Fantasy XI since the beginning of the beta, and I've been playing World of Warcraft for about a year or so now. Opinions aside, I truly feel that Final Fantasy XI is the better MMORPG. The only real aspect I feel that lacks is the need to be in a group throughout most of the game.

I'm leaving now.

I still think FFXI is much more interesting just becuase when I played there was plenty of friendly people, except for one hoe who said mages were doped. Too bad the white mage didn't like what he said ad left his group. But yeah FFXI is difficult to level up sometimes, especially for a mage. But mages are always the more challanging jobs to use. And I like the Macros cause for a mage when I played I set macros for my spells and I put some text for what my character would say when they casted it which was pretty neet. But yeah FFXI in my opinion is better.

I played FFXI about... I don't know, think it was 2 years ago or something.
Had a lot of fun, met new friends and enjoyed every second of it. One day I heard of WoW and decided, well what the hell, I'll give it a try. So I quit FFXI and joined the WoW community.... I still regret doing that xP
had some fun in while playing there too, but it's just not the same feeling. So in my opinion they are very different from each other. WoW is more pvp based and FF is more story based. That's the impression I got.

oh and I liked FFXI the most :D

I have played both games and they are NOT the same. I just started FF11 and I can say that in one day of playing FF11 is far better than WoW could ever hope to be. Plus even if you havn't played, looking at the screenshots I'd say that the games are completely different.

Yea there are ppl that are jerks on FFXI, just like WoW.. there are ppl that are jerks on WoW

The only real diffrence is.. WoW is for the ppl that got sick of lookin for partys and prefers being by themselves so they dont have to talk to others..

I was on WoW for maybe a week, cause of the Trial Version.. I walked round, thru the cities.. and tried to ask ppl what i should next, and all i got was a foot in the behind, just cause they were jerks.. so each game has their set of jerks.. dont compare FFXI to be Elitism, when WoW acts the same way plz..

and for teh rest of it, FFXI is based for ppl that enjoy fighting with others, and enjoying a lucarious storyline, WoW is for the ppl that enjoy fighting other ppl, specially on the PvP strict Servers of WoW that you dont even need to type anything and you can attack anything and everything.. which brings out the Jerks of WoW that enjoy attacking Younger Players.. Like Bullys
