HOW TO INSTALL PHOTOSHOP BRUSHES
In this tutorial I'm going to show how to install and use "smudge" brushes. The install process is the same for any other brush type.
1. Make sure the file you download is a .ABR file
2. Make sure the site you're downloading from is legit. DeviantArt works.
Let's use this as an example: (clicky)
Download the .ABR file, and hit save file. I highly suggest you make a Photoshop folder for all your resources, and just chuck it in there. Opening the file in Photoshop directly can be tricky because if you reset your Photoshop settings you will lose the brushes unless you have them backed up somewhere. Just make sure to save the file.
3. In Photoshop, make sure to select the "smudge" tool, not your normal brushes. Clicking and holding will show "Blur, Sharpen, and Smudge" you're going for Smudge.
4. Select the smudge brush, select the drop down area at the top, and then the settings tool: Load brushes. Make your way to the designated folder where you saved your brush file, and load it. All new brushes that are loaded in will show up at the bottom of the list.
5. Just select the Smudge brush you want to use and click and release on your graphics piece. You can also press and hold to get a different effect out of your brushes. Just whatever works for you.
Any questions, feel free to post them here.
