Name
Ilya Slayt

Title
– The Smiling Man

Alignment
– Chaotic Good

Race
– Human

Gender
– Male

Age
– 19

Appearance
– Ilya stands at 5 foot and 8 inches, he is of a slight build though not gaunt and his muscles are clearly defined. His hair colour is silvery grey with a few hints of pale blue throughout; though nearly always clean shaven when he does grow stubble it is of a similar colour to his hair. Ilya has heterochromatic eyes, his left eye being blue and his right being green. His hair is quite short though not a buzz cut (a size three or four electric razor), his hair naturally forms soft spikes and his fringe hangs in slight waves down his forehead. He has unattached earlobes, and the tops of them taper to a very slight point. His facial shape is slightly oval, and he has a well defined chin though not weirdly prominent. His nose is straight and in proportion with his face. His eyebrows and eyelashes are neither bushy nor sparse and both are immaculately maintained. Ilya has quite thin lips, and extending from the left corner of his mouth is a thin scar that curves up to the middle of his left cheek. The scar looks like an extension of Ilya’s mouth thus giving the illusion he is always smiling. His teeth are perfectly white and straight; his left canine is slightly longer than normal and occasionally pokes out between his lips even when his mouth is closed.
Ilya’s hands are extremely dexterous, and his fingers are long and quite thin. His calves are quite powerful and extremely built up in comparison to the rest of his body. Ilya’s finger and toenails are also incredibly well cared for and in immaculate shape. His skin is quite pale white and blemish free barring his facial scar.

Attire Ilya wears a pair of cream canvas shorts, that reach to the middle of his kneecaps and fit snugly around his waist without hanging down. They have a small thin pocket with a brass button shut flap (2cm wide, 7cm long, and 1cm deep) which holds a box of 10 matches of the same dimensions. The shorts are held up by a belt of pale brown leather with a basic silver clasp buckle. As well as the belt loops on the waistband of the shorts, the belt is threaded through the loops of two pouches positioned at the small of his back. One pouch is 6x6cm and 4cm deep, the other is 6cm long, 4cm wide, and 3cm deep. The first pouch contains a circular small wooden tub of shaving soap with a radius of 2cm and 3.5 cm deep and a small badger hair brush, with a handle of length 3cm and diameter 1cm, the brush is the same width and a cm long. The second pouch holds a cardboard box of a hundred cigarette papers and a small pouch of quality tobacco. On his upper body Ilya wears a long sleeve, tight fitting, white T-shirt of incredibly soft wool. Over this he wears polyester, Yale blue hoody. The hoody is slightly loose but fits Ilya well, the cuffs and hem are elasticised and Ilya wears it with the bottom turned up inside the jumper. The sleeves are slightly long and cover Ilya’s hands to just below his middle finger joints, with small holes for him to put his thumbs through. There are no pockets on the hoody, only a large sewn picture of a cactuar taking up most of the front of the jumper. Ilya’s socks are the same colour, and made of the same fabric and weave as his T-shirt and extend up to just below his knees; they also have elasticised tops so they don’t slip down his legs. On his feet Ilya wears basic grey canvas shoes with white laces and soles.

A pocket watch hangs around his neck on a thin silver chain beneath his hoody. The clock face is a simple design and is 5cm in diameter. The watch is silver, has no decoration, but is of incredible quality.

Armour – Ilya has two pieces of armour, the first is a toughened leather vest with steel plating that he wears over his T-shirt and under his hoody. The leather is very form fitting and covers Ilya’s entire torso. The steel plating is incredibly tough and light which suits Ilya’s fighting style perfectly. There are three plates on the chest, each strip is a 28cm wide, and 3cm long, there is a cm between each plate, and the plates are horizontal. There is a plate 20cmx2cm down each forearm. The plating on Ilya’s back is made 5 plates 15cmx3cm with a cm between all laid out horizontally down his back, with a slightly raised ridge in the centre where the plates cross his spine. The plates are not flat and are built to fit the curves of Ilya’s body; this armour is a custom piece of work. Ilya’s other piece of armour is a steel gauntlet that covers his entire left hand, and is made of the same steel as his plating. The gauntlet is made of plate armour and built to look similar to a normal fist with raised knuckles that have that taper to a pointed ridge. The steel is a dull grey and quite ordinary looking despite its quality.

Personality – Ilya is generally quite an odd person, he is not bad he just finds other humans and sentient beings weird. He spends most of his time simply wandering and watching people to see how they live their day to day lives. He rarely talks to people, though he often smiles crookedly at them or sneers(not purposefully his face just looks like that). When he does speak to people he tends to be quite caustic and occasionally mocking, though a lot of this is due to him being sincere but naturally comes across as sarcastic. He doesn’t have many friends as he antagonises people without even trying, though he would like to make some acquaintances. When dealing with people he doesn’t like or people looking for trouble he becomes intentionally mocking and cruel with his words, even when he realises if he continues it will get him physically beaten. He is very lethargic when comes to physical competition or fighting and rarely sees the point in putting in any effort, often choosing to take a beating rather than fight back. However with much prodding and provocation Ilya can be forced to fight, and when he does he will do everything he can to cripple or badly hurt his enemy.

-How is your character around friends? He does not have many and wouldn’t really know how to act, most likely though he would just be himself though try to come across less antagonistic.
-How is you character if alone and bored? He is usually quite content to be by himself finding joy in simply observing the world and strangers around him.
-How is s/he if insulted by someone larger than him/herself? Ilya will usually back talk if insulted, and is quite talented at scathing retorts. Though he will never physically attack someone over mere words.
-If someone accidentally trips and spills a mug of water on you char, but apologizes after, how does your char react? Ilya sees himself as a good judge of character and depending on how nice a person he reckons the stranger is, he may or may not offer a glib comment but that’s it.

Ilya would never ever, kill regardless of what is done to him emotionally or physically he would never return lethal force, his reasoning is if he is in the position to kill someone to save his life then he is in the position to hurt them enough to stop them trying to kill him. That all said he is in no way a saint, in fact apart from his general reluctance to use physical force he is a pretty immoral person. Generally he will do anything for money and usually accepts jobs from criminals or other people looking for something illegal do be taken care of. He wouldn’t accept a job that he knows would affect innocent people or leave people dead but he has no problem savagely beating, maiming, burning, stealing, and blackmailing people. Often he will seek jobs that offer a small amount of money up front and then simply doesn’t do them, however this has earned him quite a few enemies.

Ilya has a slight OCD when it comes to physical grooming, always ensuring that his nails, teeth, and hair are in good shape and that he is clean shaven. To this end he always carries around a beautiful straight razor with him(this is also his primary weapon which is why I didn’t mention it in attire).

On account of generally being by himself Ilya has developed quite a stable mind, and strong will. He has spent a lot of time simply thinking about the world around him as well as about himself and what he is. He has become very comfortable with who he is and what he does. As such he has good control over his emotions, as well as being nearly impossible to frighten. This does not mean however that he is not cautious. Due to his distance from people normally he tends to be quite forward and occasionally unintentionally blunt.

First Impression
– The first thing most people would be likely to notice about Ilya is his scar as it is visible from before most of his other features, as well as that fact that it makes him seem to be smiling constantly. After that they may notices his eyes depending on how observant they are. On talking to him for the first time a person may find him a bit standoffish and caustic but not really a bad person. Depending how nice a person they are themselves depends on how cold Ilya can be towards them. Ilya’s direct nature is also apparent and he is generally quite up front with his intentions.

Strength
– Physically Ilya is above average in some respects and quite low in others, as he has conditioned his body in a certain way. As he relies mainly on speed, bulking up would be a bad idea for Ilya. However it was necessary for him to build up muscle endurance and overall strength to avoid being taken down with a single blow by physically powerful opponents. Ilya is stronger than the average human male of the same age and can bench roughly 140 lbs.

Vitality
Ilya has quite bad defensive technique, and relies heavily on being quick enough to dodge most of his enemy’s attacks. Despite his poor form Ilya has very high endurance and can take quite a beating before suffering real damage. Nor will he stop fighting even with broken bones. Unless his tendons or ligaments make him unable to fight at an operable level he will attempt to defeat his opponent.

In regards to magic Ilya has no special resistance to it, though his natural endurance would still be effective against physical-magical attacks(for example if someone created a rock and fired it at him). Also if he is utilising Aeon Clock, certain magical spells would have less time to effect him ,to explain this I will use an example;

While in his 2 second per second state(2sec/s) Ilya's left hand is hit by a flame attack, in his sped up state his hand was touching fire for 2 seconds but in real time it was only touching it for 1 second. Now the flame was still moving in regular time, therefore it would not have as much time to cause the energy transfer which would excite the atoms in Ilya's hand to cause a burn(clearly I only have a vague idea how fire burns you =/ ). Thus in this kind of situation, the damage caused to Ilya would be lessened somewhat.

Speed
– Ilya’s max speed tops out at 28 to 30mph, though he can only maintain this for a max of 40 seconds after that he becomes exhausted and his left knee gives him trouble. His knee trouble may be due to a slight weakness of tendons or ligaments in his knee. His usual running speed would be just less than 20mph, he can maintain this pace for roughly 7-8 minutes. This pace is to avoid exhaustion as well as surprising opponents by quickly accelerating to his quickest pace to land an incredibly fast finishing blow. The best feature to Ilya’s speed is his ability to accurately gage how fast he is moving, and his very quick acceleration and deceleration.

Stamina
– Ilya’s stamina is quite good he can maintain a running speed slightly below 20mph for almost 8 minutes or up to 28mph for almost nearly a minute. Though he generally moves much quicker, to conserve energy Ilya can move at anywhere between 10-15mph for almost half an hour even after moving at higher speeds for a short time.

Reflexes
– His reflexes are excellent as an offshoot of his natural speed, from a distance of perhaps 20 metres he could catch an arrow in flight even from a longbow, and can dodge bullets if he is facing the shooter and bouncing on the balls of his feet(or in motion) prepared for the shot, it also of course depends on the shooter. That isn’t to say he is quicker than a bullet, simply he is reacting to how quickly the shooter can pull the trigger and moves out of the way before they begin to fire. Naturally this means that despite his bad defence technique he is quite good at dodging blows even from quite quick adversaries.

Fighting Style
– Ilya has a very basic fighting style, he will avoid his opponent and simply dodge his attacks until he believes he has sufficient opening to launch an attack. His main weapon is his straight razor and his initial attack will nearly always be a slash across his opponents face in order to permanently blind them. After this he will then retreat and repeat the process but instead attack the Achilles tendons or another non-fatal weak spot. Finally when the opponent is sufficiently weakened he will speed in to take them out with a blow to the temple from his gauntleted fist. If an opponent has too high a defence or is too quick to leave an opening Ilya will use his strongest attack the Cruzer Slice.

WeaponsA flat ground 5/8” straight razor with a pale wooden handle, the handle is 6” long and the blade folds away into it when not in use.

Ilya’s only other weapon is a very old and decrepit katana, the blade length is 63cm and the handle 20cm. The sheath is made of what seems to have once been high quality wood. Now it is cracked, warped, and aged with some very faint traces of silver inlay. Grasping on to the sheath is a hand so decayed that it is merely bone, it seems like a male hand, though Ilya cannot know for sure. The blade itself is in even worse shape, there are cracks running down it length wise and even rust holes. The edge is still unnaturally bright and shiny however, and despite it’s decayed form has never broken when used and still cuts easily.

Abilities
– Cruzer Slice

This is the only attack that Ilya can perform with his sword and it is quite basic. Ilya prepares to unsheathe, then charges his opponent at maximum speed and once they enter the range of his blade he unsheathes and slices at them in one motion. This is by far his fastest attack. The attack itself uses up very little energy. Seeing as it is a very predictable attack it’s power lies in Ilya utilising his maximum speed and as such he uses up 20% of his maximum stamina. The move has a few other flaws, he has to stop for a split second when he reaches the point at which he unsheathes the blade. Also if the attack misses or is blocked Ilya is left wide open. Finally unless Ilya is very careful the move would easily be fatal if successful.

Magic
– This is where the true source of Ilya’s speed resides; he is a practitioner of a form of time magic called ‘Aeon Clock’. This is a form of magic where the user shifts their time to a higher level and effectively lives faster than normal people for a short period of time. The way this works is simple, to explain, it operates on seconds per seconds, Ilya can accelerate his time-frame in increments of one second. Basically He can move his time-frame so for that every one second of normal time that has passed, he has lived two seconds thus allowing him to move twice as fast.

The ‘Aeon Clock’ ability has some massive drawbacks of course, if Ilya stays in sped up time longer than two and a half minutes of real time(however with training and experience this can be increased) he is locked into that time frame permanently and thus will age twice as fast and be unable to live a normal life.

When a user shifts back to normal time it can be an incredible shock to the system on novice users, or even a master who was under pressure. The shock to the system can often cause minor motor problems for a short-term period; however there have been very rare cases of cardiac arrest, and one instance of death. Currently Ilya can only shift his time to 2 seconds per second, however with training this could be increased to 3 seconds per second, possibly higher, though 3 seconds per second is the highest documented shift.

Other Skills
– Ilya has an incredibly accurate body clock, once told the time he can keep it perfectly without the need of a watch or any other such device. This is especially useful given the ‘Aeon Clock’ as he can see exactly how many seconds pass on his internal for one second on his pocket watch.

History – Ilya was born in a small town with a very mild climate, where it constantly seemed to be Autumn. The town is famous for its clocks and is full of clock smiths and watchmakers. His parents were nice people but Ilya simply did not get on with them, even from a young age. They had a small town mentality and his personality simply did not gel with theirs’. Despite his differences he did not dislike his parents and still trained as a watchmaker with his father, which helped develop his naturally dexterous hands.

As he grew into a teen, Ilya began to spend more and more time alone as he found no one in his village that he could really connect with. When he reached fifteen Ilya decided there was nothing left for him in his village and decided to travel the world. As a parting gift his father gave him the straight razor he now carries. Whilst travelling the world Ilya’s personality really began to develop and during his encounters with well-travelled, educated, or simply interesting people he really began to take an interest in people watching.

Ilya’s cavalier attitude towards money and how to make it, was present in him from a young age. He never cared much for money and simply saw it as a minor necessity for acquiring food and other things to sustain him. Generally Ilya gets away with it when he abandons a job halfway through, once however he was not so lucky. A year or so after skipping out on a job and taking the money he had been paid up front, he asked a stranger in a bar for a light. Unfortunately the bar was a front for the Mafia Boss whom he had ripped off. Ilya was captured and the scar on his face was carved into him with his own razor as an ever present message that Ilya was not to be trusted.

It wasn’t long after this that he came across the nameless sword he now wields. Passing through a large meadow he fell into a hole hidden by some long grass. The hole was only two metres or so deep but inside there was what appeared to be the remains of a small shrine. The shrine had decayed into a framework of rotting wood. In the centre protruding from the ground was a skeletal arm grasping the sword. Being an economic kind of guy Ilya stole the sword snapping the skeletons hand off at the wrist however he was, and still is unable to remove the hand grasping the sheath. Currently he continues to wander the world...

How is his defense against magical attacks?

and can dodge bullets depending on the shooter.

Only if he A) knows exactly when and where the bullet is coming from, and B) is already in motion an instant before the trigger is pulled. Otherwise, it's a little too quick for my liking.

if Ilya stays in sped up time longer than two and a half minutes

Two and a half minutes of regular time? Or of sped up time?

(Obviously I’ll have a limit on the amount of seconds per second that Ilya can shift to, but I’m not sure what it should be to avoid over/under-powering my character so I was hoping you could help here)

Three-to-one seems good to me.
