I am just replaying FF12 and got to thinking how my perception of the Archadian Empire has changed...FF12 never did paint its kingdoms/characters in black and white and
I think this is where its possible to discuss these things even more so than in other games...
Sure, Archadia is the bad guy when all is said and done, but is it a simply a case of we tend to favor Dalmasca because it is the underdog and the 'loser' of the war. However, the game frequently tells us about the power hungry nature of humes and this is where the problem stems from. I have even seen arguments that Vayne and Cid are trying to modernize the world and free it from the clutches of the past. Sure, killing thousands of people justifies the end for them. I think Larsa is an interesting character in all of this. Is he naive about the way things work and is this naivety a strength of his? He clearly does not have war on his mind but his position has been allowed by war and conquest. I guess its the dilemma of all superpowers.
BTW Since the initial artwork Archades has been one of my favorite areas and I love the elegance of the music that plays when you are in the city...
