At the end of last year, legendary Hip-hop artist, Nas, gave rise to what, to me, proves a very intriguing and discussion-worthy question. Is hip-hop dead or alive? I just thought since hip-hop is a very influential and much-listened-to genre (I even listen to some of it, though I personally dislike most of it) that this would make a good topic for the site. Vote, and state your opinions!

I don't think hip-hop is dying or anything like that. It's just that it's getting a bit of inactive nowadays but that's it. Don't you realize how many hip-hop/rap fans are out there already? :P

Well I don't mean it in the same way you're thinking about it, but, yes, I believe hip-hop is dead. All I ever hear out of hip-hop is the same; hoes, money, drugs, blah-blah-blah... Sure, there are the occaisional original songs that don't deal with any of that, and (though a little more rarely) some have a message or a moral, but all they do is put a temporary pulse into a dead and lifeless body which never moves, it just lays on it's back motionless.

There's alot of Classical Music fans and that's been gone for a few centures now.

Real Hip-hop has died I'm afraid, well not died, just not as popular as it used to be, and there aren't enough REAL Hip-hop acts anyways.

It is dead...all they talk about is "All my hoes" or "all my bitches" or "all my niggers in the club" it's so stupid!! it's dead...thanks Nas for showing us that.

since Pac died(?) can't say it's really alive... the only artists i can think of that used hip-hop for what it was meanth were/are Eminem(partially) and Mike Shinoda, and perhaps also Brother of Words(the singer of the Bimfunk mc's), though they're rather commercial and all, they speak about life rather then women, and disrespecting those women... others are constant as said before, with the hoes and bitches and the bling bling... just not what hip-hop's about...

hip-hop dead...? not really, still very popular despite the crap half of the so called rappers are spoutin' out
true hip-hop dead...? yes

Some people don't consider them hip-hop... But I think Gorillaz should be recognized as well... They do such good crossovers into the genre, I can't really think about Hip-hop without thinking of them.
