Game Play Help

I've been looking on some guides for game play help, and I keep seeing things in the guides that don't exist in the version that I'm playing.

The guides say that I can buy an item called Phoenix Down, but I don't see this item in any shop. Right now I am at Corneria Lake and I have two of the orbs: Earth and Fire. Also, it mentions Mithril, but I don't see anything Mithril, just Silver. I was checking out the guides because I had a flame shield and ice sword while I was exploring Mount Gulag but then I died, and when I beat Mount Gulag again I couldn't find the items.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
Assuming you're using an NES, in the WSC, PSX, and GBA, they changed the names from Silver to Mythril, and if you need some Phoenix Downs, you can use the Airship (assuming you cleared the Ice Cavern) to fly to some other town that does sell them.
 
Oh, so I don't get Phoenix Down until later? Okay. Thanks for the help. (That's annoying though because there are some Mages in the Water Cavern that can erase me, and I have no way of resurrecting.)
 
well you can also use your ship to travel to towns that sell them, or if you have a white mage, you could get the Life spell too...

if you already have a white mage with the Life spell but had troubles because of your white mage dying, then you should be fine with just 10 (your white mage won't die that much, will it?)
 
There are Phoniex Downs in FFI? I don't think there are. It's either spell or sanctuary as far as I know...
