Just bought it off ebay. Not knowing I need the old school ps2...Crap, now I gotta buy that to!
But my question is...how old is FFXI? Are the serves going to be online for along time to come? How popular is the game? And Just what is the online experience like? Is it like you log on...make a character of any race...advance in levels...complete quests...get items???

First and foremost, Final Fantasy XI will be around for a very long time. It remains to be one of the most popular MMORPGs to this day. It released in Japan nearly five years ago, and released in North America about three years ago or so.

Pending on the server you reside on, your experience is entirely up to you. The point of the game is to advance in levels, do missions, do quests, and get items. You're encouraged to make friends so you are not required to rely on random people at all times. The biggest downside to Final Fantasy XI is that it's very much so a group-based game. If you want a game in which you're able to play solo from time to time, this game really doesn't meet that standard. There are many quests and missions that you can do alone. However, all experience parties after level ten require that you have a full party of six people. This means that if no one is around to party with, you do not advance in levels. The game requires a lot of your time. If you don't have the time to play the game, you won't accomplish much.

In any case, it remains to be my favorite and most-played game to date. Been playing since the American beta was released and have enjoyed it all.

Yea FFXI is extrmeley Popular with MMORPGers and FF Fanatics cause it throws into account that you can battle monsters in a Real time fight, and not some old school Random Battle.. there is a bit of strategy for the game.. but most of you have to learn while your goin along
